A hose fitting is provided to fluidly couple a hose to a component of a boat engine. The hose fitting includes a lead in portion having a substantially smooth exterior surface, a barbed portion with multiple barbs configured to sealingly engage with an inner liner of the hose, a grip portion with multiple substantially flat grip faces; and a terminating portion configured to couple to the component of the boat engine. The lead in portion, the barbed portion, the grip portion, and the terminating portion collectively define a central flow passage extending through the hose fitting.

A marine propulsion system includes an internal combustion engine; a fuel reservoir; a pump that pumps fuel from the fuel reservoir to the internal combustion engine; and a fuel filter that filters the fuel. The fuel filter includes a canister and a fuel inlet that conveys the fuel adjacent to cylindrical sidewalls of the canister so that the fuel immediately spirally flows around and down the cylindrical sidewalls under centrifugal force and under force of gravity, and then is drawn radially inwardly through a filter element by the pump. A fuel outlet extends at least partially along a center axis of the canister and discharges the fuel from the canister. A drain is located at the bottom of the canister and configured to drain water that separates from the fuel as the fuel flows around and down the cylindrical sidewalls.

The first flow of cooling water and at least part of the second flow of cooling water are merged and then sprayed together into the exhaust conduit via the cooling water sprayer.

An outboard motor engine has a cylinder block including vertically stacked cylinders divided into two cylinder banks arranged in a V-shape. Two cylinder heads define intake passages, each intake passage corresponding to a respective cylinder. Air intake manifolds include air intake runners that extend from an opposite end of the engine, around outer sides of the cylinder block, and respectively connect to the intake passages. Two vertically extending fuel rails are respectively located between the first cylinder head and the first air intake manifold and between the second cylinder head and the second air intake manifold. The fuel rails are integral with either the respective cylinder heads, or the respective air intake manifolds. Fuel injectors are coupled to the fuel rails and vertically spaced from one another with respect to each fuel rail such that each fuel injector is associated with a respective cylinder.

A fuel rail conveys the fuel to the fuel injector. The fuel rail has an upstream inlet end that receives the fuel and a downstream outlet end that supplies the fuel to the fuel injector. A fuel hose has an upstream inlet end that receives the fuel from a fuel reservoir and a downstream outlet end that discharges the fuel to the inlet end of the fuel rail. A filter element axially extends into at least one of the fuel rail and the fuel hose. The filter element is configured to filter particulate materials from the fuel.

A device is for separating water and contaminants from fuel that is being supplied from an upstream fuel reservoir to a downstream internal combustion engine. The device comprises a housing configured to couple with the upstream fuel reservoir, the housing having an inlet receiving fuel, water and contaminants, and an outlet discharging the fuel; a gravity separator disposed in the housing between the inlet and the outlet, the gravity separator separating the water from the fuel; and a filter disposed in the housing between the inlet and the outlet, the filter filtering the contaminants from the fuel.

A marine engine fuel system provides a low pressure lift pump to draw fuel from a fuel tank and cause the fuel to flow into a reservoir and a high pressure fuel pump which draws fuel from the reservoir and provides it to a fuel rail. An inlet conduit of the high pressure fuel pump is provided with a primary and a secondary opening. The secondary opening can be an orifice formed through a wall of the inlet conduit. The secondary opening is positioned, relative to the primary opening, at a location which assists in controlling the fuel level within the reservoir and the quantity of gaseous fuel contained within an ullage above the liquid pool of fuel.

A fuel system for a marine propulsion device controls the pressure of liquid fuel within a fuel rail by altering the pump speed of a fuel pump. The fuel pressure in the rail is measured by a pressure transducer which provides an output signal to a microprocessor that allows the microprocessor to select an operating speed for the fuel pump that conforms to a desired fuel pressure in the rail. By decreasing or increasing the operating speed of the positive displacement fuel pump as a function of the measured pressure in the rail, the microprocessor can accurately regulate the fuel pressure.

A haptic throttle control mechanism includes a vibrating element that is connected in vibration transmitting relation with the control mechanism. The vibrating element can be a motor with an eccentric weight attached to its shaft or a piezoceramic component. The vibrating signal can be used to provide information to the operator of the marine vessel relating to the actual operating speed of the engine or, alternatively, it can be used to alert the operator of an alarm condition.
