Automated microdissection instrument and method for processing a biological sample

A cannula and method include a shaft portion having a proximal end, a distal end, a longitudinal axis and a lumen extending from the proximal end to the oppositely disposed distal end along the longitudinal axis. A hub is attached to the proximal end of the shaft portion and includes a transverse portion, which extends transversely relative to the longitudinal axis of the shaft portion. An opaque marker is disposed on the transverse portion at a position corresponding to an expanded size of an expandable element such that the opaque marker indicates the expanded size in an imaging system image.

Flexible apparatus for ablating unhealthy spinal tissue. A housing includes a distal end and a proximal end. Multiple thermocouples mounted on the housing measure spinal tissue temperatures at locations between the proximal end and the distal end. A sensor measures spinal tissue impedance. The measured spinal tissue impedance corresponds to various physical state data of the spinal tissue. The spinal tissue impedance and the spinal tissue temperatures are displayed to the surgeon, enabling the surgeon to determine with certainty the location of the unhealthy spinal tissue, and to exercise control over the ablation apparatus. Nerve stimulation by IMP/STM switch system to detect nerve responses before and after treatment.

A high pressure bone cement delivery device includes a delivery adapter having an input port, an output port and cavity having bone cement disposed therein. A pressure intensifier is coupled to the delivery adapter and includes a first chamber containing a gas, a second chamber containing a fluid. The pressure intensifier includes a piston having a first end movably disposed within the first chamber and a second end movably disposed in the second chamber. The pressure intensifier includes a second output port in communication with the second chamber and the input port. The first end of the piston includes a first end surface having a first surface area and the second end of the piston comprises a second end surface having a second surface area that is less than the first surface area. Methods of use are disclosed.

High pressure remote delivery system for cement and methods of use

A method for electro-chemical machining (ECM) is provided. Methods may include providing an ECM machine including a controller and a fixture configured for positioning an electrode for ECM, positioning the fixture in a selected dovetail slot of a plurality of dovetail slots in a turbine wheel, the turbine wheel being positioned in-situ in a turbomachine, the fixture positioning the electrode for ECM of a portion of the selected dovetail slot, applying an electrolyte solution between the selected dovetail slot and the electrode, and removing material from the portion of the selected dovetail slot by applying an electric potential to the electrode to create a potential gradient between the electrode and the portion of the selected dovetail slot. The machining may be repeated for each dovetail slot of the turbine wheel in-situ in the turbomachine.

A cutting device includes an elongated shaft extending between a proximal end and a distal end. A lower portion extends from the distal end of the elongated shaft and includes an outer surface and an inner surface spaced apart from the outer surface which together form a blunt end configured as a stop so as to protect adjacent tissue. An upper portion extends from the distal end of the elongated shaft and including an inner surface. The upper portion is configured so as to be disposed opposite the lower portion. A cutting element is disposed between the lower portion and the upper portion and is configured for retractable extension beyond the distal end of the elongated shaft so as to contact tissue.

A system comprises an inflatable bone tamp including a plurality of linearly aligned expandable bodies. The system further comprises an elongated tubular shaft extending through the plurality of linearly aligned expandable bodies. The elongated tubular shaft includes a shaft wall and an interior partition structure. The system further comprises a plurality of channels extending through the shaft, each of the channels formed by a segment of the shaft wall and the interior partition structure and each of the channels in communication with the respective one of the plurality of expandable bodies via openings in the shaft. Each of the expandable bodies is independently inflatable.

A steerable catheter system is provided including an elongated shaft having a proximal end, a distal end and an outer surface. The outer surface includes at least one cavity configured to facilitate movement of the distal end relative to the proximal end so as to steer the elongated shaft. A catheter tip is attached to the distal end of the shaft. The catheter tip comprises a curved body having at least one RF cutting edge and at least one non-cutting area recessed from the at least one cutting edge.

A method of treating a fracture includes creating an access path to a fracture site in a bone and inserting a guidewire through the access path into the fracture site is provided. The method includes the steps of positioning a cannulated drill bit having a distal end including helical flutes configured for drilling through bone over the guidewire into the fracture site, and advancing the drill bit to create a passageway in the bone configured to receive a screw. Positioning a cannulated inflatable bone tamp over the guidewire and inflating the inflatable bone tamp to compress at least a portion of the bone in or near the fracture site so as to create a void. Delivering a bone void filler into the void through the access path to fill the void. Systems and kits are disclosed.
