A truss assembly including truss hold-down connectors for attaching metal trusses to a bearing member. One embodiment of the truss hold-down connector has a vertical connector web that has a bottom attachment leg protruding therefrom for attachment to a bearing member and first and second attachment tab portions for attachment to the flanges of a vertically extending truss web. Stiffeners may be embossed into the vertical connector web to provide the connector with additional strength. The first and second attachment tabs may be configured to enable pairs of identical connectors to be attached to vertically extending truss webs that have one or more diagonally extending truss webs attached thereto.

A truss hold-down connector for attaching metal trusses to a bearing member. Truss hold-down connectors and methods for attaching a truss to a bearing member

Roof bracing, and a braced roof structure including the bracing located at the junction of dihedral surfaces of the roof structure which meet at a dihedral angle determined by trusses in a roof framing system. The bracing includes a pair of elongate braces each having a web and a flange extending from an edge of the flange. The web is bendable relative to the flange. The braces can be applied with their flanges in back-to-back engagement and with the webs extending laterally outwardly generally at the dihedral angle for generally flatwise engagement of the webs with the trusses. The braces also function as beams to support the roofing against upward and downward loads on the roofing.

Roof bracing and braced roof structures

A truss system utilizing braces to retain the trusses in spaced relation. The braces include a beam with retainers at opposite ends for forming a snap lock connection to adjacent trusses, fixing the spacing between the trusses. One retainer includes a yoke which will automatically position the brace in an orientation generally normal to the truss to which the brace is mounted. The other retainer is adapted to mount to an adjacent truss and form an interlock with a second brace extending to the next truss. The braces are lined in a row across a plurality of trusses positioned in generally parallel relationship.

Truss brace and truss structure made therewith

An elongate structural member of a steel truss. The structural member includes a web, a flange and a cap portion. The web includes a first web section and a second web section. The second web section extends angularly outwardly from a first surface of the web at a first longitudinal edge of the first web section. The flange extends laterally outwardly from the first surface of the web at a second longitudinal edge of the first web section. The flange is configured to be substantially perpendicular to the first web section. The cap portion extends outwardly from a second surface of the web at a distal longitudinal edge of the second web section. The cap portion is configured to be substantially parallel to the flange.

Structural member of a truss

A shear panel configured to fit between adjacent studs in a stud wall is described. The shear panel in one embodiment of the present invention includes an elongate I-shaped member, a top shear cap, and a bottom shear cap. The elongate I-shaped member includes a central region and two opposing flanges extending longitudinally along opposing outer edges of the central region. The elongate I-shaped member is configured to fit between adjacent studs with the flanges in face to face contact with the faces of the adjacent studs. Each shear cap includes an elongate flat section, a first elongate leg section, and a second elongate leg section. The first and second leg sections extend perpendicularly from the elongate flat section, and the leg sections are configured so that an end of the central region of the I-shaped member fits between the legs. The first leg section is positioned inward from a first longitudinal edge of the flat section, and the second leg section is positioned inward from a second longitudinal edge of the flat section of the top shear cap. A first ear section of the cap is formed between the first longitudinal edge and the first leg, and a second ear section of the cap is formed between the second longitudinal edge and the second leg. The shear panel is positioned within the plane of the stud wall and does not extend out past the plane defined by the outer edges of the studs.

A truss that, in one embodiment, includes alternating metal webs in non-critical portions of the truss is described. The truss includes two chords vertically spaced apart and parallel to each other, and a plurality of metal web members extending between the two chords and coupled to the vertical surfaces of the chords. The truss also includes at least two critical portions and at least one non-critical portion. The critical portions of the truss are configured so that the metal webs coupled to each side of the truss are aligned, and each metal web coupled to one side of the truss has a corresponding metal web coupled to the other side of the truss. The non-critical portions of the truss are configured so that the metal webs coupled to one side of the truss do not have a corresponding aligned metal web coupled to the opposite side of the truss. Rather, the metal webs are coupled to the chords in an alternating pattern where there is a metal web coupled to one side of the truss, then a space, then another metal web, and so on. The other side of the truss has a similar configuration, only offset, so that the spaces on each side of the truss align with a metal web on the opposite side of the truss.

A T-brace for a web member of a steel truss is described. The T-brace includes an elongate base portion, opposing side portions depending from the side edges of the base section, and a first and a second top portion depending from the side portions. The top portions are configured to substantially overlap and to be parallel to the base portion. The side portions of the T-brace are configured to taper from the base portion to the top portions. The T-brace is configured to attach to the central channel portion of the web and be attached by screws penetrating the web and the T-brace. The length of the T-brace is approximately equal to the length of the web. The T-brace is also configured so that when the T-brace is installed in the central channel of a web, and the web is installed in a truss, the T-brace does not extend outside the plane of the truss.

A brace for mounting on a web member in a generally planar truss to resist flexing of the web member out of the plane of the wooden truss. The brace is an elongate metal member comprising a flange adapted to overlie a face of the web member, and a body, extending from the flange, adapted to lie substantially within the thickness of the web member. A plurality of teeth may be integrally formed in the flange to embed in the web member and mount the brace thereto. Alternatively, holes may be provided on the flange for mounting the brace. The brace, when mounted on a web member, helps reduce bending and flexing of the web member, out of the plane of the truss, and trusses that include the brace do not need cross-bracing.

In-plane brace for web members in trusses and truss with braced web

A truss cross brace apparatus is described. The truss cross brace apparatus includes an elongated channel member having a U-shaped cross section. The channel member includes a base web and opposing side webs depending from the base web. An engaging portion extends from each end of the channel member. Each engaging portion includes at least one integrally formed tooth projecting from the bottom surface. The engaging portions are adapted to overlie the upper surfaces of the top chord of adjacent trusses, with the integral tooth embedded therein, such that an angle formed by the channel member and a top chord is about 45 degrees. A tab extends from a side web at one end and from the opposing web at the other end of the channel member. Each tab includes at least one integrally formed tooth projecting from the tab. Each tab is adapted to be bent to overlie the side surface of the top chord of adjacent trusses with the integral tooth embedded therein. The cross brace and support apparatus is quickly and easily installed between adjacent trusses without separate fasteners. The cross brace provides lateral support to the trusses during and after the construction process. Because the cross brace has a low profile, it can be left in place when sheathing is installed over the trusses.

Cross brace

A truss spacer and support device for installation between the chords of adjacent trusses includes an elongate, generally U-shaped channel member. There is a tongue on each end having at least one nail integrally formed thereon which is adapted to overlie the top of a chord with the integral nail embedded therein. Tabs extend from each side of the channel member at each end with at least one nail integrally formed thereon. The tabs are raked inwardly toward the opposite end sufficiently that the ends of the nails do not extend past the ends of the channel member sufficiently to interfere with positioning the device between the chord members of adjacent trusses. The tabs can be bent to overlie the sides of the chord, with their integral nails embedded therein. The devices are employed to accurately space and support trusses during construction of a structure, and to provide added support against in-service loads.

An assembly of trusses fabricated of sheet metal wherein the lower chord of a supported truss is connected to the lower chord of a supporting truss by a connector formed of sheet metal with the supported truss at an angle to the supporting truss, and connectors for making the connection.

A truss fabricated of cold rolled sheet metal structural members having chord members, web members, and connectors for joints thereof, of such construction as to enable fabrication of the truss with the chord members lying flat on a fabrication table and further of such construction as to allow a plurality of trusses to be stacked flatwise one on another for storage and delivery.
