A computer-implemented method for performing incremental database backups may include (1) identifying a request to perform a block-level incremental backup of a database, the block-level incremental backup including data that has changed within the database since a previous block-level incremental backup of the database, (2) requesting, in response to the request, a differential backup stream from a database server of the database, (3) creating an incremental backup stream from the differential backup stream at least in part by removing at least one database block from the differential backup stream that has not changed since the previous block-level incremental backup and (4) forwarding the incremental backup stream to a backup location to create the block-level incremental backup. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Systems and methods for performing incremental database backups

Techniques relating to performing an incremental backup of a database relative to a previous backup are disclosed. The incremental backup may include initiating monitoring of a dirty list indicative of one or more portions of the database that have been modified since the previous backup, causing a reset of the dirty list, obtaining a copy of the dirty list, and backing up only portions of the database identified by the copy of the dirty list. The copy may be representative of the dirty list immediately prior to the reset.

Methods, computer program products, computer systems, and the like, which provide for the performance of a targeted backup operation, are disclosed. Such a targeted backup operation is performed on a backup that comprises a plurality of data blocks. The data blocks, in turn, comprise an in-use data block and an unused data block. In response to the request, notifications of a plurality of transactions that occur in the database may be received, and information specifying the plurality of transactions may be stored. The method may further comprise receiving user input requesting to restore the database to a previous state. In response, the stored information may be retrieved, and a graphical user interface indicating the plurality of transactions specified by the stored information may be displayed. The method may further comprise receiving user input to the graphical user interface selecting a particular transaction of the plurality of transactions. In response, the database may be restored to a particular point in time relative to a time at which the particular transaction occurred.

Programmatically receiving and storing transaction information in support of a database recovery engine

A method and apparatus for restoring table data using one or more restoration commands, where the one or more restoration commands are generated at the time a backup of a database comprising the table data is created. The disclosed restoring of table data comprises identifying table data after completion of a backup process on the database and generating one or more commands for restoring the table data where the one or more restoration commands are generated prior to a request to restore the table data.

In one embodiment, an apparatus utilizes a volume snapshot service (VSS) to create a snapshot image file of a computer's storage system and then subsequently reads the data blocks contained in the snapshot image file. A determination of the number of modified data blocks, i.e., the data blocks that have changed since a last backup operation, is made. The apparatus estimates a backup size from the number of modified data blocks and subsequently determines if the estimated backup size exceeds a predetermined threshold. Method and apparatus for dynamically backing up database files

Techniques for recovering data from cold images are disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, the techniques may be realized as a computer implemented method for recovering data from cold images comprising searching storage associated with a target recovery device, identifying one or more data structures on the storage, parsing the one or more identified data structures, and recovering one or more portions of the one or more parsed data structures.
