An adjustable stabilizer bar assembly includes a housing rotatably mounting a stabilizer bar in a first bore. A second bore in the housing slidably receives an actuation pin. A plurality of dowels are slidably provided between the first and second bores. As the actuation pin is slid into the housing, selected dowels are forced into respective grooves on the stabilizer bar, thereby ratcheting the stabilizer bar toward a limited rotational range. Sensors and a driver may input data to a controller to selectively position the actuation pin, thereby providing a desired degree of roll resistance.

An assembly and a method for quickly mounting a damper to a support structure in a vehicle includes an upper mount assembly mounted on a piston rod of a damper prior to assembly of the damper to a mounting tower. As the piston rod is guided through an opening in the mounting tower, a resilient ring is compressed until it passes through the opening. When the ring clears the opening, it expands radially outwardly to a diameter greater than the diameter of the opening, thereby quickly mounting the piston rod and damper to the vehicle.

Vehicle suspension of the type including trailing arm axle with cross-beam includes steer-control bushings connecting the forward ends of the axle trailing arms to the vehicle body, the bushings having rigid steer-control elements molded in situ within the elastomeric element of the bushing.

Vehicle rear suspension apparatus

A bypass type variable effort power steering system including a bypass valve in a bypass duct connected at opposite ends to the working chambers of a steering assist fluid motor and a throttling valve in the bypass duct in series flow relationship with the bypass valve. The throttling valve has a valve element spring biased to a centered position between valve seats of the throttling valve. When the bypass valve is open, the springs hold the valve element in the centered position until bypass flow exceeds a transition flow rate characteristic of substantial pressure differences between the working chambers of the fluid motor. At bypass flow rates above the transition flow rate, a pressure force is induced on the valve element which overcomes the spring force and moves the valve element to a seated position on one of the valve seats. When the valve element is seated, bypass flow is blocked and power assist is maximized.
