Pressware products made from paperboard and methods for making same. The product can include a paperboard substrate and a compostable barrier coating, as determined by ASTM D6868-19, that is at least partially disposed on the paperboard substrate. The product can also include a paperboard substrate and a first compostable coating at least partially disposed on the paperboard substrate. The first compostable coating can include clay particles and less than 50 wt % binder, based on the total weight of the first compostable coating, wherein the binder is compostable, as determined by ASTM D6868-19. A second compostable barrier coating, as determined by ASTM D6868-19, can be at least partially disposed on the first compostable coating. The resulting pressware product is compostable, as determined by ASTM D6868-19.

Compostable paperboard for pressware products

A compostable disposable container made from a paperboard laminate. The paperboard laminate has a first paperboard layer, a second paperboard layer, and a waterproof coating disposed between the first and second paperboard layers. One or more additional surface coatings that are water resistant can be added to outer surfaces of the laminate. The laminate structure is able to be press-formed at higher forming temperatures, resulting in a stronger, more rigid container.

Pressware products, such as disposable cutting boards and trays, are provided. A disposable cutting board can include an inner sidewall extending upwardly from a bottom panel, a flange portion that extends outwardly from the sidewall, a first annular transition extending upwardly and outwardly from the bottom panel to a first end of the sidewall, and a second annular transition extending outwardly from a second end of the sidewall to a first end of the flange. The bottom panel can have a surface area of about 300 cmto about 1,000 cm, and the disposable cutting board can have a height of about 3 mm to about 10 mm. The disposable cutting board can further have an FPI rigidity of about 85 grams or more and a product to blank perimeter (P/P) ratio of about 90% to about 99%.

Disposable cutting boards

A paperboard plate such as a paper plate includes a generally planar bottom portion, an upwardly and outwardly extending fluted sidewall, wherein the sidewall comprises a plurality of sidewall flutes substantially around the outer perimeter of the plate to define a fluted perimeter. The flutes are suitably present at fewer than 3.5 flutes per inch; the plate has a radial profile with a single transition; and the diameter/flute length ratio is greater than 6. The plates are formed in a punch-through die cutting and forming tool from a plurality of paperboard web layers at increased productivities as compared with conventional heated press-forming.

Disposable fluted paperboard plates and method of making same

Products and methods of increasing the Rigidity and Rim Stiffness of disposable containers are provided. The containers have an outer flange portion extending outwardly with a brim portion sloping downwardly defining a declivity angle &#x3b1; with respect to a horizontal generally parallel to the bottom portion and generally include an outward turn at the periphery of the container. A preferred method of improving rigidity includes press-forming: (i) a brim transition portion adjoining the downwardly sloping brim portion of the container and (ii) an outwardly extending annular evert portion adjoining the brim transition portion extending outwardly at an eversion angle &#x3b2; of at least about 25 degrees with respect to the downwardly sloping brim portion of the flange.

Pressed paperboard servingware with improved rigidity and rim stiffness

Methods for making paperboard blanks and paperboard products therefrom are provided. In one aspect, a method for making a paperboard blank can include burning a paperboard substrate to form at least one aperture therethrough. The method can also include securing a film onto a first side of the paperboard substrate to produce a paperboard blank.

The present invention provides a container suitable for providing insulation wherein the container has an inner shrink film liner. The sidewalls of the container, which can be made from paperboard or other suitable material, are vented to allow ambient air to flow through the sidewall of the container during activation of the shrink film. Upon activation the container provides excellent insulation. Methods of making the container are also provided.

Method of making a container employing inner liner and vents for thermal insulation

The present invention provides a container () suitable for providing insulation wherein the container has an inner shrink film () liner. The sidewalls of the container, which can be made from paperboard or other suitable material, are vented to allow ambient air to freely flow through the sidewall of the container during activation of the shrink film () with hot liquid or other suitable material. When the container is filled with material having a temperature of from about 130&#xb0; F. to up to about 212&#xb0; F., the shrink film () is activated and the container () provides excellent insulation, thereby allowing the container to be held in a consumer's hand for an extended period without causing burns or excessive discomfort. Method of making this container () are also provided.

A container comprising a sidewall and an inner liner. The inner liner includes an intermediate portion affixed to the sidewall about a periphery of the intermediate portion. The sidewall includes a vent disposed within the periphery of the intermediate portion. The intermediate portion is adapted to separate from the sidewall such that ambient air flows through the vent to form an air pocket between the intermediate portion of the inner liner and the sidewall.

A heat insulating paper cup having an improved seal. The cup can include a body member having an inside surface and an outside surface, and a bottom panel member having a upper surface and a bottom surface. The body member is coated (or in some instances partially coated) on its outside surface with a foamed low density polyethylene, and on its inside surface with an unfoamed modified low density polyethylene. The bottom panel member is coated on its upper surface with a foamed or an unfoamed low density polyethylene or foamed or unfoamed modified low density polyethylene. The body member and bottom panel member are oriented and joined to form a heat seal at an interface between a portion of the unfoamed modified low density polyethylene coated on the inside surface of the body member and a portion of unfoamed low density polyethylene or unfoamed modified low density polyethylene coated on the upper surface of the bottom panel member.

Heat insulating paper cups

A heat insulating paper cup having an improved seal. The cup can include a body member having an inside surface and outside surface, and a bottom panel member having a upper surface and a bottom surface. The body member is coated (or in some instances partially coated) on its outside surface with a foamed low density polyethylene, and on its inside surface with an unfoamed modified low density polyethylene. The bottom panel member is coated on its upper surface with or an unfoamed low density polyethylene or foamed or unfoamed modified low polyethylene. The body member and bottom panel are oriented and joined to form a heat seal at an interface between a portion of the unfoamed modified low density polyethylene coated on the inside surface of the body member and a portion of unfoamed low density polyethylene or unfoamed modified low density polyethylene coated on the upper surface of the bottom panel member.
