Foamed products are produced using multi-component systems which are advantageously free of isocyanate. The components of the systems are combined, with the resulting mixture then undergoing curing and foaming to provide a foamed product, wherein the characteristics of the foamed product may be varied by selecting particular reactants to be present in the multi-component system. The systems employ at least one (meth)acrylate compound having two or more (meth)acrylate functional groups per molecule, at least one thiol compound having two or more thiol functional groups per molecule, at least one free radical initiator, at least one blowing agent, at least one surfactant, and optionally at least one promoter for the free radical initiator.

Multi-component systems for preparing foamed products

A low tack, self-adherent adhesive is obtained by curing a composition containing at least one acrylate-functionalized urethane oligomer, at least one poly(meth)acrylate-functionalized monomer and, optionally, at least one free radical initiator such as a photoinitiator or peroxide, but little or no hydrocarbon tackifying resin. Such adhesives are useful for producing reclosable packaging, wherein strips of adhesive are arranged in an opposed manner such that a package may be repeatedly opened and then resealed.

Curable compositions and low tack, self-adherent adhesives prepared therefrom

Curable compositions include a urethane (meth)acrylate oligomer having a number&#x2014;average molecular weight of at least 6000 g/mol; at least one mono(meth)acrylate monomer; a multifunctional crosslinking monomer chosen from acrylate monomers, methacrylate monomers, or combinations thereof; and an ethylene-vinyl acetate grafted terpolymer. The mono(meth)acrylate monomers may include a first mono(meth)acrylate with Tg between 50&#xb0; C. and 175&#xb0; C. and a second mono(meth)acrylate with Tg between &#x2212;50&#xb0; C. and 30&#xb0; C. The curable compositions may be applied onto a surface of a substrate then cured to form a low-tack adhesive layer on the surface. The curable compositions may be cured by exposure to visible radiation, UV radiation, LED radiation, laser radiation, electron-beam radiation, peroxide, accelerator, or heat. Methods for bonding substrates include contacting a second substrate to a tow-tack adhesive layer on a first substrate, then heating the low-tack adhesive layer to bond the substrates and form a laminate.

Curable heat-seal adhesives for bonding polymers

Inhibition by oxygen of the peroxide-initiated cure of a composition based on (meth)acrylates or other compounds containing free radical-polymerizable functional groups is mitigated by inclusion of one or more polythiols in the composition. Such compositions may be formulated as multi-part systems, which are useful for the preparation of coatings and sealants.

A crosslinking monomer for a peroxide cure composition is a dual functional monomer and has at least two allyl groups and at least one (meth)acrylate group. A composition comprises the crosslinking monomer and at least one (meth)acrylate monomer. A two-part peroxide composition comprises the crosslinking monomer, at least one (meth)acrylate monomer, and a peroxide initiator. The compositions, which may be wax-free or solvent-free or both, are useful as protective coatings or sealants for concrete and other substrates.

Thermoplastic elastomers made by copolymerizing macromolecular monomers with alkoxyalkyl acrylates in the presence of energetic materials serve as solid propellants which have high burn rates and increased insensitivity over conventional propellants. The copolymers are prepared in situ by subjecting the mixture of monomers and energetic materials to electron beam radiation.
