A system and method for developing trust in an organization supported tracking system by ensuring that resources in a resource library are collected from trusted sources, and encouraging and tracking participation in organization supported activities designed to achieve a long term goal of the organization. Resources may be submitted by organization members and ranked according to multiple factors including the trustworthiness of the source, the relevance of the resource to the long term goal, or the response of the organization members to the resource. Participation may be encouraged through friendly competition, awards granted for participation, and publication of member accomplishments. Tracking may be facilitated by allowing members to create initiatives and actions related to the long term goal which members may follow and join and then tracking and verifying member participation in those initiatives and actions.

A network device that can be implanted in a subject is described. The device is configured to communicate over a computer network. In one embodiment, the device of the invention includes an internal interface in physiological communication with the subject. The internal interface is coupled with, and configured to send signals to, a processor. The processor is configured to receive and process the signals, and is further configured to communicate over a computer network with another such device. Such devices can be used to monitor and communicate information regarding a host's physiological status, monitor and/or control artificial organs and prosthetic devices, and/or dispense medication.

The present invention comprises a method for providing feedback to the user of a graphical user interface using visual and operational clues. In an embodiment of the invention, the user is provided visual clues that inform the user in what direction the display area can be scrolled. The display area may contain a list, a text box, a pop-up menu or any kind of data. Operational clues help the user determine what actions move the list and what actions do not move the list. The invention can be implemented in the form of a list. A list is comprised of one or more fields. At the top of the list and at the bottom of the list is a blank space that functions as one of the visual clues. The purpose of the blank space is to inform the user they are at the top of the list and cannot scroll any further up or that they are at the bottom of the list and cannot scroll any further down. Another form of visual clue is provided through the use of partially visible fields. Partially visible fields help the user know in which direction the list can be scrolled by indicating to the user that additional fields are present beyond the partially visible one.

Method and apparatus for providing feedback while scrolling

The present invention comprises a method and apparatus for authenticating data related to on-line transactions. The invention utilizes a user-customized certification indicator that informs a user as to the success or failure of one or more authentication and/or security protocols implemented on a user communications access device such as a personal computer, a personal digital assistant ('PDA'), an enhanced function telephone, etc. In one or more embodiments, one of the components of the indicator is user defined, and locally stored, reducing the likelihood of interception and counterfeiting. In one or more embodiments, the indicator components include a centrally provided graphic element and a user defined text overlay. When a user initiates an electronic transaction, a background validation process is initiated that implements procedures for determining the authenticity of data related to the transaction, such as the identity of a transaction party. If the validation process determines that the data is authentic, the validation process displays a certification indicator comprising the graphic overlaid with the user defined text-string. In another embodiment, the certification indicator includes one or more multi-media components, such as, for example, an audio component.

Method and apparatus for authenticating on-line transaction data

Each element typically has an appearance which is related to the data or function the element is designed to represent or perform. The elements may simply mark data within the document, or may be programmed to cause the computer to perform some function in association with the marked data. Further, useful elements for systems such as computerized camera systems, portable multimedia systems, and remote controls are also described. Some of the user interface elements of the present invention may have an appearance and/or functionality dependent upon the context in which the element is used, and/or dependent upon the user's identity. Methods for arranging the elements in stacks, and for providing for automatic application of elements to captured image data are also disclosed.

A method and apparatus for formulating and responding to an inquiry through an interface which is topically organized. The dialogue system interface is comprised of various topical objects wherein each domain object has a set of object values. Selection of a desired object value of a domain object yields a set of potential inquiries, corresponding to the selected value, for selection. A selected inquiry is transmitted to an underlying system for formulation of a response. The formulated response of the underlying system is then transmitted to the user through the dialogue system interface. The dialogue system generates and displays further domain objects, object values, and inquiries that are logically anticipated from the selected inquiry.
