A replay station and a method of operating the relay station in a multi-hop communication system are provided. A method of operating a relay station of a multi-hop communication system includes monitoring a delay of the relay station, determining whether the monitored delay exceeds a predetermined threshold, and controlling the relay station to be handed over to another upper relay station that is different from a connecting upper relay station.

A wireless communication system with femtocells and a method for mitigating inter-cell interference in the wireless communication system are provided. The interference control method includes notifying a mobile station of entry to a home cell, when the mobile station enters a macrocell including a femto base station with which the mobile station is registered, transmitting, by the mobile station, a femtocell driving control message to the femto base station at a predetermined transmission power, when the mobile station enters a femtocell of the femto base station, and switching on, by the femto base station, a transmitter, when the femtocell driving control message is received.

Communication system with femtocells and an interference control method therefor

A communication system is provided which includes different kinds of base stations such as a macro base station and a femto base station. This system may execute a method for controlling unfavorably occurring interference due to such different kinds of base stations. In the method, the femto base station sends a femtocell interference indication (FII) report to the resource allocation control unit when user equipment is connected to the femto base station. The FII report contains a request for the allocation of resources to avoid interference. Then the resource allocation control unit establishes a femto interference coordination (FIC) zone according to the received FII report. The FIC zone indicates a particular region used to define resources allocated to the femto base station. The resource allocation control unit may be the macro base station or a self-organizing network (SON) server.

Communication system and method for controlling interference caused by different kinds of base stations

A communication device and method using a cooperative transmission and network coding transmission scheme are provided. A mobile station (MS) includes a data receiving unit to receive network coding data transmitted from at least one relay station (RS) and downlink data transmitted from a base station (BS), and a data transmission unit to transmit uplink data to the BS and the at least one RS, wherein the BS transmits the downlink data to the at least one RS.
