A photo-alignment material, a liquid crystal display device using the photo-alignment material, and a manufacturing method. The photo-alignment material is a polymer having a photo-reactive ethenyl group on a main chain. When used as a photo-alignment layer, the photo-alignment material enables improved alignment stability against external shocks, light, and heat. The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer formed between the first and second substrates, and a photo-alignment layer formed at least on the first substrate, with the photo-alignment layer formed from a photo-alignment material having an ethenyl group at a main chain.

Photo-alignment material and liquid crystal display device and its manufacturing method using the same

An array substrate of an LCD and a fabricating method thereof are provided. A first insulating layer is formed on the substrate. A TFT and a hardened liquid crystal layer are provided in a pixel region of the substrate. A second insulating layer is formed in the pixel region around the hardened liquid crystal layer such that the second insulating layer and the hardened liquid crystal layer are substantially planar. A first alignment layer is formed between the hardened liquid crystal layer and the first insulating layer. A pixel electrode is formed on the second insulating layer and the hardened liquid crystal layer and contacts a drain region of the TFT through a hole in the first insulating layer. A second alignment layer is formed on the entire substrate over the second insulating layer and the hardened liquid crystal layer.

Array substrate of liquid crystal display device and fabricating method thereof

An in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display device includes: a lower substrate and an upper substrate which face each other; a gate line and a data line on the lower substrate such that the gate line and the data line cross each other to define a pixel region that is divided into a transmissive region and a reflective region; a thin film transistor arranged at a crossing of the gate line and the data line; a reflective plate in the reflective region; a pixel electrode and a common electrode arranged in an alternating pattern at the pixel region; a retardation layer arranged on the upper substrate to correspond to the reflective region; a liquid crystal layer between the upper substrate and the lower substrate; and a first polarizing plate and a second polarizing plate at outer surfaces of the lower substrate and the upper substrate, respectively.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) device is provided. The LCD device includes an LCD panel having a first liquid crystal layer therein; a first polarizing sheet; and a first phase-difference compensation portion disposed adjacent a first surface of the LCD panel between the LCD panel and the first polarizing sheet. The first phase-difference compensation portion includes a plurality of phase-difference films having at least second and third liquid crystal layers with tilt angles that are different.

Liquid crystal display device and method thereof

A method for fabricating a smectic LCD using oriented films that are treated by light radiation. Furthermore, the bonding of the LCD substrates is performed using light and pressure. The method includes forming a first substrate, a second substrate, and locating spacers on the first substrate. Then, oriented films are formed on the first and second substrates. Those substrates are then disposed in a facing relationship. Light irradiation then performs an orientation treatment on the oriented films. That light irradiation also bonds the substrates together. A liquid crystal is then interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate.
