A method and system to manage connectivity of a client device in a mesh network including one or more network devices. A first network device determines a first client link cost metric associated with a first connection between the first network device and the client device. The first network device determines a first mesh link cost metric associated with a second connection between the first network device and a destination device. A first total connection cost metric is determined based on the first client link cost metric and the first mesh link cost metric. The first network device identifies a set of total connection cost metrics associated with the one or more network devices and destination device of the network. The first network device executes a connection decision in response to a comparison of the set of total connection cost metrics.

Managing mesh network connectivity using synchronized connection cost metrics

A method for enhanced mesh networking, including performing network analysis, configuring router link parameters, and managing routing paths, is described. A metric for routing path assessment, including a throughput metric and a channel utilization metric, is described. A Segment Table Announced Mesh Protocol, including determining network segments and designating forwarding devices for communication between the network segments, is described.

Systems and methods for enhanced mesh networking

Technology for selective feature announcement by an access point device in a network is described. In one embodiment, the access point device sends a wireless beacon to a plurality of client devices seeking to connect to the mesh network and receives a probe request message from a first client device of the plurality of client devices. The access point device determines, at least partially using information obtained from the probe request message and using other information not present in the probe request message, a category of the first client device and determines that the category of the first client device is incompatible with a certain feature offered by the access point device. The access point device sends a probe response message to the first client device omitting an indication of the certain feature, while the certain feature remains enabled for at least one other client device of the plurality of client devices.

A method for enhanced mesh networking, preferably including performing network analysis, configuring router link parameters, and managing routing paths. An electronic device has a processor, a Wi-Fi radio, a first database and a second database. The first database includes geolocation and identity information of a sparse subset of a global catalog of Wi-Fi access points. The second database includes locally stored location-based content. The processor: (i) controls the Wi-Fi radio so as to detect one or more Wi-Fi access points proximate to the electronic device, (ii) makes an identification of the one or more detected Wi-Fi access points, (iii) makes a coarse determination of a location of the electronic device by comparing the identification of the one or more detected Wi-Fi access points with the geolocation identity information in the first database, (iv) selects location based content corresponding to the coarse determination from the second database or from a server, and (v) outputs the selected location-based content to a user of the electronic device.

Sparse Wi-Fi access point database for mobile devices

Electronic devices can be provided with access point sparse databases that include a listing of some or all known access points in a geographic region and the respective coordinates of those access points. The device can scan and identify the access points that are within range of the device. The device can reference the names of the detected access points with access point information included in the sparse database stored in the device to determine the coordinates of the detected access points. These coordinates provide an estimate as to the device's geographic position. The sparse database can also include data describing various actions that are triggered in response to the device being located in the geographic region. Thus, upon determining that the device is physically located in the geographic region, the device can perform or execute any actions that have been specified in the sparse database.

Approaches for positioning computing devices

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for dynamically adjusting the amount of mobile device data storage allocated for storing information associated with wireless access points. The amount of allocated data storage may be determined or adjusted based on storage allocation parameter data such as AP density data, device mobility data, route data, or the like.

Adjusting data storage allocation for access point information

Positioning systems may be used to determine the location of computing devices in space. Described herein are systems, methods, and computer readable mediums for storing information determined to be reliable that is used to determine the location of a computing device. In some implementations, the system determines that a scan list is reliable based on factors such as characteristics associated with the type of device that generated the scan list, or based on the amount of times that the information in the scan list was detected over a period of time.

Systems and methods for acquiring location data

One or more user experience metrics are obtained for one or more types of wireless communication networks. One or more user experience indicators may be displayed on a screen in conjunction with a signal strength indicator. Different sets of user experience metrics may also be obtained, each set being associate with an application on a user device. Each set of user experience metrics may be displayed in conjunction with a list of applications. A user may provide user input selecting a wireless communication network and the user device may be configured to use the selected wireless communication network.

Determining user experience metrics for different communication networks

An encryption key module in a content providing server receives a request to stream electronic media data to the user device. The encryption key module identifies a predefined shared secret key corresponding to a key in a subscriber identity module (SIM) in the user device. The predefined shared secret key is used for encryption of data. The encryption key module encrypts the requested electronic media data based on the shared secret key and provides the encrypted electronic media data to the user device over a wireless network.
