Fatigue in organic photoconductors in which the charge transport layer is a source of acidic protons is reduced by including in the charge transport layer a small amount of a nonvolatile basic amine soluble in a common solvent with a charge transport material and the binder of the charge transport layer.

The ink layer of a thermal transfer printing ribbon is overcoated with a hold-off layer which serves to make the resulting printing more easily correctable. The hold-off layer operates by preventing penetration by the ink layer into the substrate being printed upon.

Correctable thermal transfer printing ribbon

A method and apparatus for correction of non-impact printed material which is formed by depositing a thermoplastic marking material on the print sheet. The method and apparatus uses a correction tape or ribbon comprising a substrate which carries a pressure transferable pigmented material on one face. The correction ribbon is positioned between the erroneously printed character and a correction device which is actuated to produce sufficient pressure to move the correction ribbon into intimate contact with the erroneously printed character, and the pigmented material is transferred selectively only to the character area to cover the erroneously printed character, so that the correct character can then be printed. In an alternate embodiment, the correction device is actuated concurrently with a backspace operation.

Method and apparatus for correction of non-impact printing

The present invention is concerned with a ribbon for non-impact printing. The ribbon comprises a transfer coating and a substrate which is a polyester resin containing from about 15% to about 40% by weight of electrically conductive carbon black.

An image is formed by exposing to a light pattern a plate comprising a substrate and only a single layer of a photoconductive, non-polymeric, film forming, pyrazoline, oxadiazoles or fluorenone organic compound which has a glass transition temperature below 200.degree. C. and which has both a crystalline phase and an amorphous phase, and developing the plate by causing a selective change in phase between the light exposed and non-exposed areas.

A direct view display device comprises a pair of conductive electrodes in spaced relationship and a recording medium having the properties of being both photo-ionizable and capable of electro-chemically producing colored species occupies the space between the electrodes. The display device is exposed to an optical pattern of radiation to which the recording material is sensitive to produce a latent image, and a potential is applied between the electrodes to produce a very dense image corresponding to the optical pattern. The image can be erased by reversing the potential between the electrodes so that the expose and enhance process can be repeated.

High efficiency electrochromic display device

A visual image display device with improved resolution contains a pair of conductive electrodes in spaced relationship. Adjacent one electrode is a first barrier layer which is typically a resin such as polyamide containing a readily oxidizable and reducible material such as zinc nitrate. Adjacent the other electrode is a thin film of solvent, for example, 1,2-dichloroethane. Positioned between the film of solvent and the first barrier layer is a second barrier layer which is a normally light transmitting recording medium. The second barrier layer is both photoionizable and capable of electrochemically producing a colored species. Typically the second barrier layer is a solid containing a resin such as polyvinyl butyral, an active material such as 1-p-anisyl-3 diethylamino styryl-5-diethylaminophenyl-2-pyrazoline and, in selected embodiments, an activator such as carbon tetrachloride.

Visual image display device

An apparatus and a process for displaying a visible image are disclosed. A solution in liquid of at least two types of polymeric materials contained between two electrodes, at least one of which is transparent, is subjected to imagewise electrical voltage. The polymers comprise cellulose nitrate, polyester, polyvinylcarbazole, and formaldehyde condensation polymers.
