Systems and methods for fault toleration actuation include an actuator with a position. A first sensor measures a first parameter associated with the actuator. A second sensor measures a second parameter associated with the actuator. A sensor fusion module receives data from each of the first and second sensor and executes a sensor fusion process on the data received to estimate the position of the actuator. A fault detection module is configured to receive data from the first and second sensor, to receive sensor fusion data from the sensor fusion module, to compare the data received from the first and second sensor with the sensor fusion estimate, to identify an error in the data received from either of the first or second sensor based on the comparison, and to determine a fault exists in the first or second sensor based on the error.

A motion control unit capable of receiving electrical power from an electrical power source and hydraulic power from a hydraulic power source. The motion control is configured to produce a blended power output derived from the electrical and hydraulic power which can be used to power a hydraulic actuator. The motion control unit can also split hydraulic power recovered from hydraulic actuator to the electrical power source and the hydraulic power source.

An actuator control system can include a plurality of electro-mechanical actuators for operating one or more end effectors, a plurality of position sensors associated with the plurality of electro-mechanical actuators, each of the plurality of positions sensors providing an output indicating an actual position value, and a control system. The control system can be configured to receive an activation command signal and the position sensor outputs, and send a speed command for each of the plurality of electro-mechanical actuators and adjust the speed command of each of the plurality of electro-mechanical actuators using a common reference parameter to synchronize movement of the plurality of electro-mechanical actuators together.

The present disclosure relates to a blended or hybrid power system with increased operating efficiency. The blended power system combines the advantages of electrical power with the advantages of hydraulic power when delivering power to a hydraulic actuator. The hydraulic power provides higher power density and the electrical power provides high efficiency and control accuracy in the blended power system. In a blended power system, a control system may be configured to select different modes of operation based on the loads encountered in the combined hydraulic and electrohydrostatic system. The blended power system also allows for smooth and uninterrupted transitions between the different modes of operation within the blended power system. Thus, jerkiness in the blended power system may be minimized or eliminated.

The present disclosure relates to a motion control unit that is capable of receiving electrical power from an electrical power source and hydraulic power from a hydraulic power source. The motion control is configured to produce a blended power output derived from the electrical and hydraulic power which can be used to power a hydraulic actuator. The motion control unit can also split hydraulic power recovered from hydraulic actuator to the electrical power source and the hydraulic power source.

A hydraulic system includes a hydraulic mechanism that includes a first and a second chamber. The hydraulic system includes a control valve fluidly connected to the first chamber and a pressure sensor that is configured to measure the fluid pressure in the first chamber. The hydraulic system includes a processing unit connected to the control valve. The processing unit is configured to control a hydraulic fluid flow rate to and from the first chamber of the hydraulic mechanism via the control valve to provide a shock absorption response. The hydraulic fluid flow rate is based at least in part on a pressure measurement received from the pressure sensor. The shock absorption response is based on a simulated hydraulic accumulator.

A net load () is supported by a first chamber () of the hydraulic cylinder, and a second chamber () of the hydraulic cylinder may receive fluctuating hydraulic fluid flow from the second control valve to produce a vibratory response () that counters environmental vibrations () on the boom. The first control valve may apply a holding pressure and thereby hold the first counter-balance valve closed and the second counter-balance valve open.

Control method and system for using a pair of independent hydraulic metering valves to reduce boom oscillations

An energy conserving hydraulic system for a mobile work machine includes a prime mover, a drivetrain, a baseline hydraulic system, a power-take-off, a transformer, a work implement, and an accumulator. The drivetrain may include an automated manual transmission (AMT) that is rotationally coupled to the prime mover and the power-take-off. The baseline hydraulic system is powered by the prime mover and includes a first hydraulic circuit. The transformer is hydraulically coupled to second and third hydraulic circuits. The work implement is actuated by an actuator that is adapted to be simultaneously hydraulically coupled to the first and the second hydraulic circuits. The power-take-off is adapted to exchange shaft power with the transmission. A clutch selectively rotationally couples the transmission and the power-take-off. The accumulator is hydraulically coupled to the second hydraulic circuit. The second hydraulic circuit is hydraulically coupled to a first rotating group of the hydraulic transformer, and a third hydraulic circuit is hydraulically coupled to a second rotating group of the hydraulic transformer.

Energy recovery system for off-highway vehicles with hydraulic transformer coupled to transmission power take-off

A hydraulic system () and method for reducing boom dynamics of a boom (), while providing counter-balance valve protection, includes a hydraulic actuator (), first and second counter-balance valves (), first and second independent control valves (), and first and second blocking valves (). The actuator includes first and second corresponding chambers. In a first mode, the second counter-balance valve is opened by the first control valve, and the first counter-balance valve is opened by the second control valve. In a second mode, at least one of the counter-balance valves is closed. A meter-out control valve () may be operated in a flow control mode, and/or a meter-in control valve () may be operated in a pressure control mode. Boom dynamics reduction may occur while the boom is in motion (e.g., about a worksite). By opening the counter-balance valves, sensors at the control valves may be used to characterize external loads. The control valves may respond to the external loads and at least partially cancel unwanted boom dynamics. The system may further detecting faults in actuators with counter-balance valves and prevent any single point fault from causing a boom falling event and/or mitigate such faults.

Methods and apparatus to enable boom bounce reduction and prevent un-commanded motion in hydraulic systems

System, method, and apparatus for power distribution in an electric mobile application during run time using configurable electrical interface ports
