Methods and apparatus to operate closed-lid portable computers are disclosed. An example portable computer includes a first display on a lid of the portable computer, the first display to be deactivated when the lid is in a closed position; a second display distinct from the first display, the second display to be visible when the lid is in the closed position; instructions; and processor circuitry to execute the instructions to cause activation of the first display in response to a user interaction with the second display while the lid is in the closed position.

Methods and apparatus to operate closed-lid portable computers

In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a memory and a processor. The memory is to store sensor data, wherein the sensor data is captured by a plurality of sensors within an educational environment. The processor is to: access the sensor data captured by the plurality of sensors: identify a student within the educational environment based on the sensor data: detect a plurality of events associated with the student based on the sensor data, wherein each event is indicative of an attention level of the student within the educational environment: generate a report based on the plurality of events associated with the student; and send the report to a third party associated with the student.

Methods and apparatus to operate closed-lid portable computers are disclosed. An example portable compute device includes: a microphone; a speaker; a first camera to face a first direction; and a second camera to face a second direction, the second direction opposite the first direction. The compute device further includes communications circuitry; a first display; a second display separate from the first display; and a hinge to enable the first display to rotate relative to the second display between an open position and a closed position. At least a portion of the second display is capable of being visible when the first display is rotated about the hinge to the closed position. The portion of the second display is multiple times longer in a third direction than in a fourth direction perpendicular to the third direction, the third direction extending parallel to an axis of rotation of the hinge.

Methods and apparatus to transition between 2D and 3D renderings of augmented reality content are disclosed. An example apparatus includes instructions to cause programmable circuitry to: cause projection of an AR object onto at least one of a first surface in a real-world environment or a second surface in the real-world environment; cause the AR object to appear to move with variable depth relative to the first surface; cause the AR object to appear to move at a fixed depth relative to the second surface; cause the AR object to appear to transition from the first surface to the second surface when an apparent depth of the AR object relative to the first surface is within a threshold of the fixed depth; and prevent the AR object from appearing to transition to the second surface when the apparent depth is not within the threshold of the fixed depth.

Methods and apparatus to transition between 2D and 3D renderings of augmented reality content

The present disclosure is directed to systems, apparatuses, and processes to identify one or more physical surfaces within a mixed reality environment, determine visually reflective properties, respectively, of the one or more physical surfaces, and based upon the determined visually reflective properties, determined for an image to be projected out location in the mixed reality environment, characteristics of a reflection of the image in one of the one or more physical surfaces. Subsequent projections of the image in the location of the mixed reality environment may take into consideration the characteristics determined. Other embodiments may recommend or edit the image to be projected to optimize reflections of the image within the mixed reality environment. Other embodiments may be disclosed and/or claimed.

Determining visually reflective properties of physical surfaces in a mixed reality environment

The systems and methods disclosed herein provide determination of an orientation of a feature towards a reference target. As a non-limiting example, a system consistent with the present disclosure may include a processor, a memory, and a single camera affixed to the ceiling of a room occupied by a person. The system may analyze images from the camera to identify any objects in the room and their locations. Once the system has identified an object and its location, the system may prompt the person to look directly at the object. The camera may then record an image of the user looking at the object. The processor may analyze the image to determine the location of the user's head and, combined with the known location of the object and the known location of the camera, determine the direction that the user is facing. This direction may be treated as a reference value, or 'ground truth.' The captured image may be associated with the direction, and the combination may be used as training input into an application.

System for determining anatomical feature orientation

Methods and apparatus to transition between 2D and 3D renderings of augmented reality content are disclosed. An example apparatus includes at least one processor to execute instructions to: determine a first intended movement of an augmented reality (AR) object projected onto a first surface in a real world environment; cause the AR object to be rendered to appear to move along the first surface at a fixed depth defined by the first surface; determine a second intended movement of the AR object projected onto a second surface in the real world environment; and cause the AR object to be rendered to appear to move with variable depth within a 3D virtual space, the 3D virtual space defined by the second surface and a virtual rear boundary, the virtual rear boundary to virtually extend behind the second surface from a perspective of a user.

Methods and apparatus to operate closed-lid portable computers are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a camera input analyzer to analyze image data captured by a world facing camera on a portable computer when a lid of the portable computer is in a closed position. The world facing camera is on a first side of the lid. The portable computer includes a primary display on a second side of the lid opposite the first side. The example apparatus further includes a secondary display controller to render content via a secondary display of the portable computer in response to the analysis of the image data. The secondary display controller is to render the content on the secondary display while the lid of the portable computer is in the closed position and the primary display is turned off.

Technologies for structured media playback include one or more physical media objects, which may be placed on a substrate including a matrix of position sensor tags. Each of the physical media objects is configured to sense one or more position sensor tags and transmit tag information received from the sensed position sensor tags to a compute device. The compute device determines a cast of physical media objects present on the substrate based on the received tag information and selects media for playback based on the determined cast. In some embodiments, the compute device may select the index of the media at which to initiate playback based on the determined cast or collection of physical media objects.

The compute device is configured to receive an attribute assignment command from a user and analyze the attribute assignment command to determine a user-selected virtual object, a user-referenced attribute of the user-selected virtual object, a user-selected real object, and a user-referenced attribute of the user-selected real object. Based on the attribute assignment command, the compute device is further configured to determine a state of the user-referenced attribute of the user-selected real object and update a state of the user-referenced attribute of the user-selected virtual object based on the state of the user-referenced attribute of the user-selected real object.

Methods and apparatus to transition between 2D and 3D renderings of augmented reality content are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a user input analyzer to determine an intended movement of an AR object relative to a first zone of a real world environment and a second zone of the real world environment. The apparatus also includes an AR content generator, in response to user input, to: render an appearance of movement of the AR object in the first zone based upon a first set of rules; and render the AR object in the second zone, movement of the AR object in the second zone based on a second set of rules different than the first set of rules.
