An embodiment of the invention relates to a power converter including an inductor coupled in series with a power switch and a resistor coupled to a winding of the inductor. Input and output power converter voltages including an input brownout condition or an output overvoltage condition are estimated, and the output voltage may be regulated, by sensing a current in the resistor. An input current waveform can thereby be controlled to replicate substantially the input voltage waveform. The controller adjusts an on time and terminates an off time of the power switch by sensing respectively a current and a change of current in the resistor. The controller may sense a current flowing in the resistor to select a line voltage range of the input voltage to the power converter. The controller may estimate an input current to the power converter employing the current flowing in the resistor.

Utilization of a multifunctional pin combining voltage sensing and zero current detection to control a switched-mode power converter

An embodiment of the invention relates to an LLC power converter including a controller configured to regulate an output characteristic of the power converter by controlling a power converter switching frequency. In a first mode of operation, the controller turns off a secondary-side power switch earlier than a turn-off time of a primary-side power switch by a time difference that is controlled by a resistor coupled to an external circuit node. In a second mode of operation, the controller turns on a secondary-side power switch at substantially the same time as the primary-side power switch, and turns off the secondary-side power switch after a maximum on time that is a nonlinear function of a load current of the power converter. The nonlinear function is a substantially constant function of the load current for a value of the load current higher than a threshold value.

Controller for a resonant switched-mode power converter

An integrated circuit includes an operational amplifier configured to receive a current sense voltage (V) at a first input and an offset voltage at a second input. A comparator is coupled to the operational amplifier and adapted to receive at a first input an output voltage signal (V) of the operational amplifier. A voltage limiting circuit is configured to receive a regulation voltage. A fold back correction circuit is coupled to the voltage limiting circuit and to a second input of the comparator. A pulse width modulator circuit is coupled to the comparator and is adapted to receive the output of comparator.

Method and apparatus for regulating power in a flyback converter

Some embodiments of the invention include an integrated circuit having a node or pin to detect a first information during a first a detection period and to detect a second information during a second detection period. In some embodiments, the information at the pin may allow the integrated circuit to operate in a quasi-resonant operation. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Apparatus, system, and method for multifunctional pin in an integrated circuit

In a preferred embodiment, there is provided a switched mode power supply operable in start-up mode, normal mode and standby mode. The power supply may comprise a transformer having a primary winding on a primary side and a secondary winding on a secondary side, the primary winding being coupleable to a DC input voltage, and circuitry on the secondary side being arranged to provide a DC output voltage; and a power controller. The power controller may comprise a regulation controller for regulating a DC supply voltage on a supply line during standby mode, and a high voltage device coupled to the DC input voltage and the supply line. The current through the high voltage device to the supply line, during standby mode, may be controlled by the regulation controller. During standby mode, when the supply voltage is greater than or equal to a reference voltage, the current through the high voltage device to the supply line is substantially zero. When the supply voltage is less than the reference voltage, the greater the difference between the supply voltage and the reference voltage, the greater the current through the high voltage device to the supply line. In other preferred embodiments, there is also provided the power controller itself and a method for regulating a supply voltage during standby mode.
