A method for monitoring a battery module in a vehicle includes selecting an upper cut-off voltage and a lower cut-off voltage for the battery module. The method includes charging the battery cell from an original state to a first benchmark voltage greater than an upper cut-off voltage, via a first charging process. The method includes discharging the battery cell from the first benchmark voltage to a second benchmark voltage less than a lower cut-off voltage, via a first discharging process. The battery module is then charged from the second benchmark voltage to the first benchmark voltage, via a second charging process. The method includes obtaining a ratio of a discharging capacity to a charging capacity of the battery module. Operation of the vehicle is controlled based in part on the ratio, including taking at least one remedial action if the ratio is less than a predefined threshold.

If the controller finds the electronic key fob to be absent from the vehicle, then the controller authorizes starting of the vehicle based on detection of a keyless authority indicator. A process for local traffic approximation through analysis of cloud data is provided. The process includes, within a computerized traffic flow estimation controller of a host vehicle, operating programming to monitor a planned navigational route of the host vehicle, identify along the planned navigational route a road section including cross-traffic, monitor cloud data related to a mobile cellular device, analyze the cloud data to identify traffic posing a hazardous condition to the host vehicle within the road section, and generate a vehicle alert to a driver of the host vehicle based upon the identified traffic.

A negative electroactive material for use in a negative electrode of an electrochemical cell that cycles lithium ions is provided. The negative electroactive material includes a particle defining a core region that includes silicon, silicon-containing alloys, tin-containing alloys, and combinations thereof. A porous, elastomeric multilayer coating is disposed on a surface of the core region that includes a first carbonaceous layer and a second porous elastomeric layer. The second porous elastomeric layer includes siloxane and a plurality of electrically conductive particles. Methods and systems to implement sensor fusion to determine collision potential for a vehicle include identifying a specific intersection that the vehicle is approaching, and identifying collision potential scenarios associated with one or more paths through the specific intersection. Each collision potential scenario defines a risk of a collision between the vehicle and an object in a specified area. A weight with which one or more information sources of the vehicle are considered is adjusted for each collision potential scenario such that a highest weight is given to one or more of the one or more information sources that provide most relevant and reliable information about the specified area. Sensor fusion is implemented based on the adjusting the weight of the one or more information sources and performing detection based on the sensor fusion, and an alert is provided or actions are implemented according to the detection.

Methods for fabricating electrodes include coating a current collector with a slurry to form a coated current collector. The slurry includes a dry fraction, including silicon particles, polymeric binders, and one or more types of naturally occurring carbonaceous filaments, and one or more solvents. The coated current collector is heat treated to produce the electrode having a layer of silicon-based host material. The one or more naturally occurring carbonaceous filaments can include animal fibers, chitin, alginate, cellulose, keratin, and chitosan, and can have an average length of 1 &#x3bc;m to 50 &#x3bc;m and an average diameter of 1 nm to 500 nm. The dry fraction can include 5 wt. % to 95 wt. % silicon particles, 0.1 wt. % to 15 wt. % polymeric binders, and 1 wt. % to 20 wt. % naturally occurring carbonaceous filaments. The method can include assembling a battery cell by disposing the electrode and a positive electrode in electrolyte.

A system and method for determining the presence of a hidden hazard may include identification of an operational scene for a host vehicle, and identification of an operational situation for the host vehicle. Information from a plurality of proximity sensors is collected and classified. A plurality of hidden hazard presence probabilities corresponding to the information from each of the plurality of proximity sensors, the operational scene, the operational situation, and at least one of a comparative process and a dynamic neural network process are estimated. A fusion process may be performed upon the plurality of hidden hazard presence probabilities to determine the presence of a hidden hazard.

In an example of a method for enhancing the performance of a silicon-based negative electrode, the silicon-based negative electrode is pre-lithiated in an electrolyte including a lithium salt dissolved in a solvent mixture of dimethoxyethane (DME) and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC).
