An article such as a heat shield panel includes a substrate and a multi-layered coating supported on the substrate. The multi-layered coating can include alternating layers of different ceramic material compositions having individual thicknesses of less than 25 micrometers.

Article having multi-layered coating

A protective coating for a surface exposed to hot gas flow comprises a thermal layer, a conducting layer and an abrasive layer. The thermal layer comprises alumina having a sufficient amount of impurities to lower the thermal layer thermal conductivity. The layer is formed from a powder having a thermal conductivity no more than 10 BTU in/hr ft&#xb0; F., and overlies the surface. The conducting layer overlies the thermal layer. The abrasive layer comprises abrasive particles bonded in a metal matrix that is electroplated onto the conducting layer.

Abrasive thermal coating

Floatwall panel assemblies and related systems are provided. A floatwall panel assembly includes a panel formed of porous ceramic material, the porous ceramic material exhibiting a porosity gradient along at least one of a length, a width and a depth of the panel, the panel lacking a substrate, formed of a material other than porous ceramic material, for supporting the porous ceramic material.

An air seal for use with rotating parts includes a thermal barrier coating layer adhered to a substrate. An abradable layer is adhered to the thermal barrier coating layer. The abradable layer comprises a matrix of agglomerated hexagonal boron nitride and a metallic alloy. Another hexagonal boron nitride is interspersed with the matrix.

A process of coating an article includes the steps of (1) forming a layer of a ceramic based compound on an article; (2) providing a solution containing a metal as a particulate having a diameter of about 10 nanometers to about 1000 nanometers and present in an amount of about 25 percent to about 50 percent by volume of the solution; (3) contacting the ceramic based compound layer with the solution; (4) drying the article; and (5) optionally repeating steps (3) and (4).

A method for providing a component with protection against sand related distress comprises the steps of: providing a substrate; and forming a thermal barrier coating system by depositing at least one layer of a first material selected from the group consisting of a zirconate, a hafnate, a titanate, and mixtures thereof, which first material has been mixed with at least one oxide so that each layer contains from about 25 to 99 wt% of at least one oxide.

Process of forming durable reactive thermal barrier coatings

A seal assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a first seal member having a first surface, a second seal member having a second surface, with the second surface configured to generally abut at least a part of the first surface. At least a portion of at least one of the first surface and the second surface includes a coating that includes about 30 to about 80 weight percent of a hard carbide material, and about 20 to about 70 weight percent of lubricating material incorporated with the hard carbide material. The coating defines overlapping lenticular particles.

A thermal barrier includes a thermal barrier member having at least one material selected from a metal foam or a ceramic foam. The thermal barrier member includes an attachment section for securing the thermal barrier member with a corresponding attachment section of a support.

A turbine engine blade outer air seal segment has a body having a base portion. The base portion has a transversely concave ID face, a forward end, an aft end, and first and second circumferential edges. The body has at least one mounting hook. The body comprises a metallic member and a ceramic member. The ceramic member and metallic member are joined along the base portion with the ceramic member inboard of the metallic member.

A method for coating a substrate of a turbine engine component, the method comprising cold spray depositing a metal-based material onto a surface of the substrate, and heating the deposited metal-based material to increase the porosity of the deposited metal-based material.

A method for providing a component with protection against sand related distress includes the steps of: providing a substrate; depositing a layer of a yttria-stabilized zirconia material on the substrate; and forming a molten silicate resistant outer layer over the yttria-stabilized zirconia material.
