A flexible electro-optic circuit board (20) includes a polymer circuit board (22) and a polymer optical backplane (34). The polymer circuit board (22) includes a plurality of circuit elements (50, 52). The polymer optical backplane (34) has a plurality of optical transmission lines (44). A plurality of optical vias (30) couple the polymer circuit board (22) to the polymer optical backplane (34).

Electro-optic device board

A method of coupling an optical fiber to a desired optical input wherein the optical fiber is pre-coated with a magnetic material and then placed in an elongated groove in a base, one end of which groove terminates at the desired optical input. A magnetic field is applied to hold the pre-coated optical fiber firmly in place while it is permanently mounted by some means such as soldering or an adhesive.

Magnetic holding methods for optical fiber I/O assembly

A method and apparatus are provided for making a continuous wire bond (139) around an angle of a workpiece (101). A pivotal stage (110) having clamp assembles (104, 107) are mounted onto a base (102). A workpiece (110) is placed and secured in clamp assemblies (104, 107). A first wire bond site on a first surface is selected and formed. Workpiece (110) is pivotally rotated to a second surface position at an angle to the first surface where a second wire bond site is selected and formed, thereby making a continuous wire bond from the first selected site to the second selected site.

Pivotal wire bonding stage and method of use

An optical interface including a keyway formed in a printed circuit board and a mating portion attached to the ends of a plurality of optical fibers. Openings in a surface of the keyway communicate light from the fibers to semiconductor chips on the board by means of optical waveguides formed in the dielectric layers of the printed circuit board. The keyway accurately aligns the mating portion which aligns the ends of the fibers with the openings.

Interface coupling electronic circuitry

An optical fiber mounted on a substrate and a semiconductor component mounted on a second substrate. The substrates abutting so that the component and fiber are optically aligned and the assembly is held in place by a first layer of adhesive which is then covered with an electroformed layer of metal to form a robust unit.
