Disclosed herein are method and systems for printing a reactive ink and a fixer or second reactive ink onto a substrate from a single orifice plate, wherein orifice plate comprising at least two orifices; wherein at least one orifice prints a first reactive ink, and other orifice prints a fixer or second reactive ink. The reactive inks and the fixer reacts to form a precipitate which soluble in at least one of the fixer or the inks.

Systems and methods for printing onto a substrate using reactive ink

Smear resistant ink jet ink images and methods for making such are disclosed and described. Generally, a smear resistant ink jet ink image includes an ink jet ink image upon a print substrate, and a water insoluble protective film having contact with the ink jet ink in the image. In one aspect, the film may include a combination of water soluble film forming polymers that become water insoluble upon interaction with one another. In another aspect, the water soluble film forming polymers may be interacted at the print substrate to form the water insoluble film.

Auxiliary fluids which give improved print permanence

A method and apparatus for placing fluid droplets onto a surface in which at least one of a group of nozzles is substantially aligned with a first of parallel line segments on the surface moving in a first direction relative to the nozzles; at least one droplet is ejected from the first nozzle onto a target on the first segment; the group of nozzles is moved in a second direction having a component orthogonal to the first direction to respectively align first and second nozzles in the group with a second segment and with the first segment; the and fluid droplets are ejected from the nozzles onto targets on the segments, the center to center spacing of the targets along the segments equaling one or a multiple of the center to center spacing of the nozzles orthogonal to the segments.

Droplet placement onto surfaces

A technique for handling residual ink that is from time to time present on the orifice plate of an ink-jet print cartridge. In one preferred embodiment, an ink-jet print cartridge is equipped with an ink-receptive member, such as an absorbent pad. The pad is located so that a service station wiper will move the residual ink from the orifice plate and spread it across the pad. The pad absorbs the ink. In essence, the ink is sequestered on the cartridge, in the pad. The exterior surface of the pad dries quickly so that there is little likelihood of developing a tacky area over the pad to which fibers may stick and degrade print quality.
