A latch mechanism is used with agricultural equipment, such as a mower, for securing the header of the mower to the tongue during transport. A pivoting catch is mounted on the trail frame on which the header is mounted. A receiver for the catch is mounted on the tongue. During mower transport the catch is biased into engagement with the receiver by a first spring and secures the header to the tongue in a parallel orientation. When the mower configuration is changed to operational mode the catch is disengaged from the receiver using a second spring attached to the catch. A cable attaches the second spring to a wheel arm of a field wheel. Deployment of the field wheel into the operation mode draws the cable and second spring into tension, overcoming the biasing force of the first spring and pivoting the catch out of engagement with the receiver.

Counter spring latch mechanism and agricultural machine

A header for an agricultural harvester including a skid shoe that is resistant to penetration into soil. The skid shoe includes a central portion having a fore end, an aft end, and first and second lateral sides extending between the fore and aft ends. At least a first upwardly directed surface extends from the first lateral side and defines a first soil deflecting surface configured to resist penetration of the skid shoe into soil. The header includes a chassis that experiences upwardly and radially directed applied loads during operation, including during turning of the header. The skid shoe is operable to receive such loads while effectively deflecting soil as the header traverses a field being harvested. As a result of the upwardly directed surface of the skid shoe, less damage is inflicted on the field and the crop growing therein.

A rock guard for use on a rotary disc cutterbar having quick-release knife connectors wherein a knife removal relief channel is oriented 45 degrees from a straight-ahead orientation to allow more than one quarter of the knives on the cutterbar to be simultaneously aligned with the channels for removal. A second knife removal channel is also oriented 45 degrees from the straight ahead orientation and 90 degrees from the first channel to permit half of the knives on the cutterbar to be simultaneously aligned with the channels for removal. The incorporation of two knife removal channels as described benefits rotary cutterbars having two knives per rotary cutter and adjacent cutters rotationally offset by 90 degrees regardless of whether co-rotating or counter-rotating rotary cutters are employed.

A foldable top cover for an agricultural mower that includes first and second generally planar cover portions connected by an intermediately positioned hinge that reduces the required overhead clearance necessary for opening the top cover. The hinge connection axis is offset in a first direction from the from plane of the cover portions and further includes hinge stops on the first and section portions that limit the hinge motion so that the first and second portions are maintained in a generally co-planar arrangement when in an operating position but may be folded in a direction opposite to the offset direction of the hinge connection thereby allowing the top cover to be compactly repositioned for service access to the mower.

Bi-fold hoods for agricultural equipment

A wheel-supported frame for an agricultural mower having a tongue, a pivotally connected frame having a pair of main wheel, and a pair of a retractable transport wheels connected to the frame. A mechanism is provided for each transport wheel to deploy the transport wheels and support the mower, the transport wheels being oriented for travel 90 degrees to the direction of travel of the main wheels. The pivoting tongue connection with the main frame provides for at least a 90 degree rotation of the frame relative to the tongue between operating and transport positions so that the mower may be pulled for transport with the mower moving in the direction of its normal lateral width. The transport wheel mechanisms also position the transport wheels where they will not interfere with mower operation, especially pivoting of the tongue.

An adapter for connecting a agricultural implement swivel hitch to a drawing hitch on a towing vehicle that enables relative pitch and roll movement between the implement and vehicle at a single, pinned joint. Elongated openings in a first portion of the hitch adapter receive a transversely aligned connection pin. The openings are sized to allow limited pin angular movement about a vehicular roll axis. A second portion of the hitch adapter is also connected to the connection pin and configured to allow limited relative angular movement about a transverse pitch axis. The connection between the first and second portions at the connector pin allows relative angular movement therebetween about generally co-planar pitch and roll axes. The connector pin is formed from a softer material than the surrounding first and second portions thereby providing an inexpensive and easily replaceable weak link in the hitch adapter assembly.

A connection apparatus for connecting a knife to a rotary disc cutterhead comprising a mounting stud having a specifically configured head disposed on the rotating cutterhead and a key hole opening on one end of the knife which permits the knife to moved into engagement with the stud and head when the knife is specifically oriented and then retained in place by the stud and head when the knife is moved into a normal operating position. A hand-operated biasing element prevents inadvertent disengagement of the knife from the stud. The key-hole opening and connection stud may also be configured to limit the angular orientation of the knife which will permit disengagement of the knife from the connection apparatus.

Quick-change disc mower knives

A crop guide comprising one or more generally wedge-shaped guides configured to interact with a crop discharge stream as it is discharged from an agricultural mower having a counter-rotating disc cutterbar. The guides are positioned rearward from the cutterbar, with one guide being generally positioned on an axis centered between each pair of converging-rotation disc cutterheads where crop material flow is concentrated. Each guide is generally pyramidal in shape, having a pair of surfaces angled with respect to one another and forming a triangular pyramid form with respect to a third generally planar surface, typically the mower swathboard. The vertex of the pyramid is oriented upstream in the crop flow so that a portion of the crop flow is split by the angled surfaces and laterally dispersed. This dispersion of crop material produces a crop mat on the ground behind the mower having a more uniform thickness compared to that produced by a traditional mower using a counter-rotating rotary cutterbar.

V-Wedge crop deflectors

A split spacer ring that is connectable to a cutterbar PTO drive shaft and works in conjunction with an anti-wrap shield to reduce the effects of crop debris accumulating on the drive shaft. Radial removal of the split spacer ring allows the anti-wrap shield to be axially displaced to enable sufficient telescoping movement of the drive shaft to disengage an end from a rotary cutterhead connection and thereby remove the drive shaft or other cutterbar components for repair or replacement. Improved axial clearance provided by the removed spacer ring also facilitates installation and removal of a crop conveying drum that may be installed on the drive shaft.

A seal device for preventing entry of debris into a rotary cutter drive housing when a shock protection device having frangible drive features is removed after having fractured the drive features following a driveline overload condition. The housing includes an upwardly facing opening through which a drive shaft for the cutter extends. The drive shaft rotationally engages the shock protection device for driving the rotary cutter. The seal device is disposed in the upwardly facing opening beneath the protection device and includes drive means for rotation in unison with the drive shaft. The seal device further includes a seal interface for sealing interface with a contact seal disposed on the inner circumference of the opening thereby preventing the entry of debris into the housing.

A shock protection device having opposing pluralities of frangible splines separated by an annular groove disposed in an internal splined opening in a drive hub, the splines for intermeshing engagement with a splined end of a drive shaft for transferring rotary motion to a cutter head from a driveline. Variation in the width of the annular groove enables precise adjustment of the fracture torque for the shock protection device beyond the adjustment possible through variation in the number or configuration of the individual splines.

One embodiment of the invention relates to an adapter assembly for a towing vehicle having a drawbar hitch for connecting a towed implement having a pull-through swivel hitch assembly to the towing vehicle. The adapter assembly includes a drawbar extension member having a horizontal cross pin, a clamp assembly to secure the drawbar extension member to the drawbar, an adapter frame having a hook to engage the cross pin, and a trunnion pin to couple the adapter frame to the swivel hitch assembly.

Method and apparatus for controlling pivotal movement of the tongue of a harvesting machine

The instant invention is directed to an implement transporter having an over-the-center latching mechanism that is selectively biased between locked and unlocked positions by the mere movement of a selection arm. Before moving the empty transporter, the latching mechanism is selectively biased in the locking position so that the ramps lock in place when the operator raises them from the light side, the ground-engaging end. To lower the ramps, the latching mechanism is selectively biased to the unlocked position. The weight of the ramp keeps the latch in place until the operator raises the far end of the ramp slightly, taking the load off the latch. The latch is pulled away from the ramp by the over-the-center mechanism and the ramp can be lowered to engage the ground.

Ramp locks for an implement transporter

The instant invention is directed to method and apparatus for securing an implement to a transporter. The transporter has rigid hooks affixed thereto adjacent the platforms upon which the wheels of the implement rest during transport. The implement has horizontally protruding cross pins that rise as the header on the implement is lowered to the transport position. By directing the wheels of the implement onto the transporter, the cross pins are moved into the mouths of the hooks and then, upon lowering of the implement header, the pins are directed into the throats of the hooks, securing the implement to the transporter.
