An escalator combplate load and obstruction sensor is capable of monitoring and indicating both horizontal and vertical force and loads. The combplate is mounted for limited horizontal and vertical travel in response to corresponding horizontal and vertical loads. Both the horizontal and vertical travel are resolved into a displacement at an angle to both the horizontal and vertical, and the displacement is applied to a sensing portion of a loadcell which generates an electrical output proportional to the applied displacement and force. An indicator is coupled to the loadcell to indicate a relationship between the displacement applied to the loadcell and at least one reference value, whereby the horizontal and vertical loads applied to the combplate can be monitored and improper load levels determined. By proper choice of the displacement angle differing vertical and horizontal forces can be resolved into the same displacement, allowing a single indicator to simultaneously display both vertical and horizontal loading status.

Combplate load and obstruction sensor apparatus

A roller degradation monitor device monitors the diameter of escalator rollers during operation of the escalator. A cam plate is mounted proximate the roller track for sequential contact with the upper circumference of rollers as they travel along the track. The vertical displacement of the cam plate is monitored by a proximity switch or sensor, differences in cam plate practice from an established baseline signifying variations in roller diameter. The output of the proximity switch or sensor provides a continuous measure of wear and decrease in diameter of the rollers. When the wear exceeds a predetermined value an alarm can be actuated.

Escalator roller degradation monitor device

An escalator step pallet has step tread and front riser portions joined together with side edges. The side edges are provided with a peripheral slot to accept replaceable demarcation inserts which identifies the side edges. The slot on the step pallet is provided with guides extending along its length to accept channels of the demarcation inserts and orient the demarcation inserts on the step pallet. Preferably, a pair of demarcation inserts are provided for each step edge, the first insert extending along the step tread and the second insert extending along the riser. The two inserts may interlock. In addition, each of the inserts is provided with a locking device which mates with a corresponding element on the step pallet to retain the insert in position. The locking device may be for example, a hook arm which engages a projection on the bottom surface of the step pallet. An access slot is provided through the insert and pallet to permit a tool to contact the hook arm to release the lock when removal of the insert is desired.
