A method is provided. The method includes receiving, by a reconstruction engine executed by processors, inputs respective to an anatomical structure and computing, by a model-based fast anatomical mapping of the reconstruction engine, an initial transformation that selects parametric model that best fits the inputs. The method further includes executing, by the model-based fast anatomical mapping, an iterative optimization. The iterative optimization include constructing a statistical prior based on the parametric model and applying the parametric model to the inputs and the statistical prior to produce an isosurface of the anatomical structure. The method further includes generating, by the reconstruction engine, an output including the isosurface.

Anatomically correct reconstruction of an atrium

An apparatus includes a shaft and an end effector at a distal end of the shaft. The end effector is sized to fit in an anatomical passageway within a subject's cardiovascular system. The end effector includes at least one electrode pair that is configured to contact cardiovascular tissue and thereby pick up electrocardiogram signals. Each electrode pair includes first and second electrodes spaced apart along a longitudinal axis from each other by a gap area located between the electrodes, the gap area having a gap length with respect to the longitudinal axis such that a length of one of the electrodes along the longitudinal axis is equal to or greater than the gap length; and a ratio of an area defined by the gap area to one electrode area is equal to or less than one.

Electrode configurations for diagnosis of arrhythmias

Electroanatomic mapping is carried out by inserting a multi-electrode probe into a heart of a living subject, recording electrograms from the electrodes concurrently at respective locations in the heart, delimiting respective activation time intervals in the electrograms, generating a map of electrical propagation waves from the activation time intervals, maximizing coherence of the waves by adjusting local activation times within the activation time intervals of the electrograms, and reporting the adjusted local activation times.

Mapping of atrial fibrillation

A system includes secondary and primary catheters, and a processor. The primary catheter includes shaft for insertion into an organ of a patient, first position sensor disposed on a distal end of the shaft, expandable assembly coupled at the distal end of the shaft, the assembly comprising hollow channel to allow passage of the secondary catheter distally via the assembly, and plurality of second position sensors disposed along a distal end of the secondary catheter, which are configured to indicate a respective plurality of positions along its distal end. The processor is configured to receive the indications of the positions, apply a model of known mechanical properties of the distal end of the secondary catheter to the positions to compute bending profile of the secondary catheter inside the assembly, and based on the computed bending profile, estimate orientation of the assembly relative to the distal end of the shaft.

The processor is configured to drive the current source generator to supply, for application to tissue of a subject, an electric current having an amplitude that varies in accordance with a predefined function of time, such that the amplitude initially monotonically increases to a maximum value. A system for use with ultrasound transducers on a catheter and connected to different respective channels includes circuitry and a processor. The circuitry is configured to receive a signal, which includes transduction of ultrasound reflections, over any given one of the channels, and to receive respective noise-signals, which include less transduction of ultrasound reflections than the signal, over a group of others of the channels. The processor is configured to receive the signal and the noise-signals from the circuitry, and to reduce noise in the signal, by, based on the noise-signals, computing, for the given channel, one or more noise-estimation functions, each of which is applicable to a respective subset of the noise-signals so as to return an estimate of noise received over the given channel while the subset of the noise-signals were received, using the noise-estimation functions, computing an estimated-noise signal, and subtracting the estimated-noise signal from the signal.

Reducing electromagnetic noise in ultrasound signals

A method is provided. The method is implemented by a mapping engine. The method includes receiving biometric data of at least a portion of an anatomical structure from at least a catheter and analyzing the biometric data based on an automatic tagging operation, a time weighted local activation time assignment operation, or a discrimination operation. The method also includes determining scar tissue of the portion of the anatomical structure based on the analyzing of the biometric data.

Signal and correction processing for anatomical structure mapping data

A catheter for electrophysiology applications is disclosed herein that includes a tubular member and an end effector. The end effector is coupled to a distal portion of the tubular member. The end effector includes first, second, and third loop members configured so that the first loop member defines a first plane, the second loop member defines a second plane at an angle to the first plane, and the third loop member defines a third plane at an angle to the first plane and at an angle to the second plane. Each of the first, second, and third loop members are configured as a respective single axis magnetic coil, and the first, second, and third loop members are collectively configured to function as a three axis magnetic sensor.

An expandable balloon, which is coupled to a distal end of a shaft for insertion into an organ of a patient, includes an expandable membrane, one or more electrodes and one or more respective conductive coils. The one or more electrodes are disposed over an external surface of the membrane. The one or more respective conductive coils are each disposed proximate a respective RF ablation electrode. The one or more conductive coils are configured as magnetic sensors.

Configuring perimeter of balloon electrode as location sensor

Classification of heartbeats based on intracardiac and body surface electrocardiogram (ECG) signals are provided. Intracardiac ECG (IC-ECG) signals and body surface ECG (BS-ECG) signals are processed to perform heartbeat classifications. A BS annotation of BS-ECG signals reflective of a sensed heartbeat is defined, the BS annotation including a BS annotation time value. IC annotations of IC-ECG signals which reflect atrial-activity or ventricular activity of the sensed heartbeat are also defined, each IC annotation including an IC annotation time value. The IC-ECG signals are discriminated as A-activity or V-activity and IC annotations are designated as IC-A annotations or IC-V annotations, respectively. A respective A/V time sequence comparison of IC annotations reflective of the sensed heartbeat is made with one or more time sequence templates for heartbeat classification. Morphology comparisons of the BS-ECG oscillating signal segments reflective of the sensed heartbeat morphology templates for classification may also be made.

Apparatus and method for heartbeat classification based on time sequence and morphology of intracardiac and body surface electrocardiogram (ECG) signals

Catheterization of the heart is carried out using a framework formed by a plurality of electrically conducting wire loops. The wire loops are modeled as polygons, each subdivided into a plurality of triangles. The wire loops are exposed to magnetic fluxes at respective frequencies, and signals read from the loops. Theoretical magnetic fluxes in the polygons are computed as sums of theoretical magnetic fluxes in the triangles thereof. The location and orientation of the framework in the heart is determined by relating the computed theoretical magnetic fluxes to the signals.

Catheter frame pieces used as large single axis sensors

An irrigated ablation catheter adapted for direct tissue contact has micro-elements that provide more accurate sensing of tissue, including thermal and electrical properties for temperature and impedance measurements. The micro-elements extend through a hollow chamber of an irrigated ablation electrode, and distal ends thereof can protrude outside of electrode or be flush with the electrode. The micro-elements have a protective guide tube in which components enabling temperature sensing or electrical sensing are encased.
