Aspects relate to an array antenna and communication using the array antenna. In some examples, the array antenna includes a first array of antenna elements arranged according to a first circle and a second array of antenna elements arranged according to a second circle, where the first circle and the second circle are concentric circles. In some examples, the first array of antenna elements is arranged with an angular offset with respect to the second array of antenna elements. For example, a first radius associated with a first antenna element of the first array of antenna elements may be offset at an angle with respect to a second radius of a second antenna element of the second array of antenna elements.

A first wireless communication device configured to encode real samples of data to obtain encoded data based at least in part on adding one or more time domain complex samples to the real samples of the data, wherein a function of the one or more time domain complex samples is a known value, and wherein the function is a sum of exponentials of the one or more time domain complex samples. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may measure one or more of a first plurality of beam reference signals. Methods and apparatus for beamforming and initial access

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications supporting techniques for enhanced line-of-sight (LOS) communications with analog multi-path beamforming are described. A first wireless device may receive, from a second wireless device, an indication of a capability of the second wireless device to concurrently transmit first signaling in a first analog beamforming direction using a first transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state corresponding to a LOS mode, and second signaling in a second analog beamforming direction using a second TCI state corresponding to an indirect LOS mode. The first wireless device may then receive, from the second wireless device, a first downlink message in the first analog beamforming direction using the first TCI state concurrently with a second downlink message in the second analog beamforming direction using the second TCI state.

Enhanced line-of-sight communications with analog multi-path beamforming

A first wireless communication device may encode real samples of data to obtain encoded data based at least in part on adding one or more time domain complex samples to the real samples of the data. A function of the one or more time domain complex samples may be a known value, and the function may be a sum of exponentials of the one or more time domain complex samples. The first wireless communication device may transmit, to a second wireless communication device, the encoded data.

Methods, apparatuses, and computer-readable medium for fronthaul compression are provided. An example method may include receiving, from a UE, uplink data via one or more active tones of a plurality of tones in a symbol, the uplink data corresponding to an access vector. The example method may further include compressing the uplink data based on a linear transformation of a pseudo-access vector generated based on the access vector, the linear transformation including a matrix, the compression enabling a second network entity to decompress the compressed uplink data without knowing one or more locations associated with the one or more active tones. The example method may further include transmitting, to the second network entity, the compressed uplink data.

Fronthaul compression for sparse access and dense access

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may receive a configuration message from a first base station including correspondence information regarding a plurality of beam reference signals, the correspondence information including information regarding designation of at least one set of physical random access channel (PRACH) resources for each of the plurality of beam reference signals. The WTRU may measure the plurality of beam reference signals transmitted from a second base station and select a beam reference signal from among the plurality of measured beam reference signals. The WTRU may determine a set of PRACH resources for the selected beam reference signal based on the information regarding designation of at least one set of PRACH resources for each of the plurality of measured beam reference signals included in the correspondence information. The WTRU may transmit, to the second base station, a PRACH transmission using at least one PRACH resource of the determined set.

Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for antenna virtualization, e.g., in at least a two-dimensional antenna array. Nphysical antenna elements may be virtualized to Np logical antenna ports. A virtualization may be WTRU-specific, which may optimize MIMO performance. A simplified MIMO scheme may be used with A reduction in feedback, reference signal, and/or control signaling overhead. Antenna virtualization schemes may utilize channel characteristics. Antenna virtualization may be defined, for example, based on antenna port to antenna element mapping, based on a measurement reference signal, based on a codebook or a codebook subset or based on an antenna virtualization matrix. One or more antenna virtualization schemes may be configured in a cell. Antenna virtualization schemes may be configured in a WTRU-specific manner, perhaps for example based on a WTRU channel characteristic(s). A WTRU may report one or more useful (e.g., optimized) antenna virtualization schemes, e.g., based on one or more measurements.

A method and apparatus for determining Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) resources and using beams are disclosed herein. In an example, a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may measure a plurality of beam reference signals transmitted from a base station. Further, the WTRU may select a beam reference signal from among the plurality of measured beam reference signals. Also, the WTRU may receive a configuration message from the base station that includes correspondence information regarding the plurality of beam reference signals, wherein the correspondence information designates at least one set of PRACH resources for each of the plurality of beam reference signals. In addition, the WTRU may determine a set of PRACH resources designated for the selected beam reference signal based on the received correspondence information. Moreover, the WTRU may transmit a PRACH signal using at least one PRACH resource of the determined set of PRACH resources.

A method implemented in a base station for conveying scheduling information in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) multi-user (MU)-multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system is disclosed. The method includes transmitting to a first user equipment (UE) the scheduling information including first scheduling information of the first UE and at least a portion of second scheduling information of at least one second UE, wherein the scheduling information includes a resource block (RB) assigned to the first UE, the number of streams, and an indication of one or more dedicated reference symbol (RS) layers assigned to the first UE. Other methods, systems, and apparatuses also are disclosed.

Methods and systems for conveying scheduling information of overlapping co-scheduled users in an OFDMA-MU-MIMO system

A method and apparatus for determining a vertical beam for reception are disclosed herein. A method in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) includes that the WTRU may receive a broadcast message from an evolved Node B (eNB) that includes information associated with a plurality of beam reference signals, wherein the information includes at least one set of Physical Random Access Control Channel (PRACH) resources associated with each of the plurality of beam reference signals. Further, the WTRU may measure reference signals transmitted on each of the plurality of beam reference signals. Then, the WTRU may select a beam reference signal from among the plurality of beam reference signals. In addition, the WTRU may transmit a PRACH preamble in a set of resources associated with the selected beam reference signal. The WTRU may then receive further communications from the eNB.

Methods and apparatus for vertical beamforming

A method implemented in a user equipment configured to be used in a multi-user (MU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communications system is disclosed. The method includes transmitting to a base station a first channel state information (CSI) report determined according to a single-user (SU) MIMO rule, and transmitting to the base station a second CSI report determined according to an MU-MIMO rule. Other methods, apparatuses, and systems also are disclosed.

Enhancement of download multi-user multiple-input multiple-output wireless communications

A method implemented in a user equipment (UE) used in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) wireless communications system supporting coordinated multi-point (CoMP) joint transmission (JT) is disclosed. The method includes measuring reference signal received power (RSRP), transmitting, to a network, first feedback on the RSRP, receiving, from the network, a CoMP measurement set, conducting pre-scheduling CoMP UE fallback according to the CoMP measurement set, computing channel quality and direction information according to a UE category, and transmitting, to the network, second feedback on the channel quality and direction information. Feedback and scheduling for coordinated multi-point (CoMP) joint transmission (JT) in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)

A method implemented in a mobile communications network supporting coordinated multiple point transmission and reception (CoMP) is disclosed. The method includes transmitting, to a user equipment (UE), data in a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), and transmitting a reference signal to the UE, wherein a union of resource elements (REs) allocated for reference signals transmitted from a subset of a plurality of transmission points (TPs) in a CoMP set are excluded from resource mapping for transmitting the data to the UE. A wireless communications system is disclosed. The system comprises a baseband processing unit (BBU) pool including one or more baseband processing units (BBUs), and a plurality of remote radio heads (RRHs) connected to the BBU pool through a front-haul network, wherein the wireless communications system has a plurality of sectors, each of which includes one or more small cells, each of which is deployed by one of the plurality of RRHs, wherein a BBUs is mapped to two or more RRHs in a sector in a one-to-many configuration, and a BBU is mapped to a single RRH in a sector in a one-to-one configuration, and wherein a combination of the one-to-one configuration and the one-to-many configuration is applied to each sector.
