The present invention contemplates a refraction system to integrate the objective and subjective measurement into a single instrument. The present invention also contemplates a refraction system with open-field and binocular viewing to overcome instrument myopia and to mimic viewing experience of a phoropter. The present invention further contemplates a refraction system employing a pair of optical trombones to eliminate the need of flipping plurality sets of trial lenses for defocus power correction.

Integrated refractor

The present invention contemplates a refraction system facilitating for contact lens fitting via measuring the patient's refraction on the corneal plane and via introducing a conjugated plane of the corneal plane for insertion of a contact lens simulator or phase plate. The present invention also contemplates a refraction system to integrate the objective and subjective measurement into a single instrument. The present invention further contemplates a refraction system with open-field and binocular viewing to overcome instrument myopia and to measure accommodation. The present invention also further contemplates a refraction system employing a pair of optical trombones to eliminate the need of flipping plurality sets of trial lenses for defocus corrections. The present invention even further contemplates a multiple vergence acuity chart to facilitate patient's judgment of best corrected visual acuity. The present invention is thus aimed to provide a refraction system that overcomes the identified issues with the commonly used auto-refractor and phoropter and that enables effective use of contact lens simulators or phase plates to facilitate fitting of multifocal contact lenses for presbyopia correction.

Refraction system for facilitating contact lens fitting

The present invention contemplates an ophthalmic adaptive-optics instrument to obtain patient-verified prescription of low and high-order aberrations. The present invention further contemplates a new and improved method and apparatus of customized corneal ablation using a patient-verified prescription of low and high-order aberrations. The patient-verified prescription of high-order aberrations characterizes the aberration correction needed for optimal visual acuity and enables customized corneal ablation to achieve optimal visual acuity for each individual patient.

Method and apparatus for obtaining patient-verified prescription of high order aberrations

The present invention contemplates to adapt the shape and movement of a popular manual flosser into an automatic flosser to minimize the learning time required for manipulating automatic dental flossing. The present invention also contemplates to combine the automatic flosser with a popular automatic toothbrush and thus to make the automatic flosser available to the users with substantially no additional cost to the automatic toothbrush. The present invention further contemplates to accomplish circular oscillation of the toothbrush bristles of the automatic toothbrush and side-to-side vibration of the dental floss of the automatic flosser.

Hybrid dental flosser and toothbrush

A surgical laser system is described for customized ablation with a power stabilized, near diffraction-limited laser beam. This surgical laser beam has a pulse repetition rate of from near 500 Hz to about 1 kHz and has a relatively small spot size at both positions of the cornea and the scanner. Such a surgical laser beam enables the use of fast scanner and the implement of fast eye tracker. One embodiment of such a surgical laser source is a CW pumped solid state laser employing non-linear wavelength conversion.

Customized laser ablation of corneas with solid state lasers

A hybrid tracking system is configured to combine the advantages of open loop and close loop tracking systems. The hybrid tracking system employs a position-sensing device in an open loop configuration, while the position-sensing device itself is a close loop device. A particular application of this tracking system is to track eye movement in a refractive laser surgery. The hybrid-tracking configuration enables optical and mechanical separation of the position-sensing device from the surgical laser beam. As a result, the position-sensing device can be made as a modular device, and the hybrid eye-tracking system can have a relatively large tracking range even when a curved mark such as the limbus is used as the tracking reference.
