Method and apparatus suitable for producing a spun yarn at high speed from short fibers less than 50 mm. in length. A bundle of fibers having a particular thickness distribution in its width direction is supplied through a fluid jet false-twist nozzle in which a throttle portion connecting the upstream and downstream portions of the yarn passageway is provided non-eccentrically or eccentrically with respect to the downstream portion, and the downstream portion has a fluid conduit opening eccentrically there into and inclined toward the outlet end of the downstream portion. Air preferably containing water at room temperature in the form of mist is used as the fluid jetted through said nozzle.

Process and apparatus for producing yarns

A yarn of thermoplastic synthetic fibers is false twisted and during the false-twisting operation the number of false twists being imparted to the yarn is estimated with high accuracy. The estimation of the number of false twists is carried out by measuring, in a section within the twisting zone of the false-twisting apparatus, the speed of the yarn being processed under a normal operational condition and by the estimated number of false twists the yarn is advantageously quality controlled.

Process and apparatus for measuring false twist in thermoplastic

A method for manufacturing a fancy textured yarn provided with slubs. In this manufacturing method, at least one thermoplastic multifilament yarn A is supplied to a twisting zone of a false twisting apparatus provided with a heater disposed at an upstream position to a false twisting element and at least one thermoplastic multifilament yarn B is supplied to the above-mentioned twisting zone so as to combine with the yarn A by way of a yarn guide which is reciprocally displaced along the yarn passage of the yarn A. The combined yarn is heat-set by the heater and then untwisted after passing through the false twisting element. Thereafter the untwisted yarn provided with numerous stable slubs composed of the yarn B, formed by wrapping the yarn B about the yarn A, is taken up to a yarn package. In the above-mentioned processing, the displacing speed of the yarn guide toward the false twisting element is controlled in a range between less than one time and at least 0.5 times the running speed of the yarn A.

Method for manufacturing a fancy textured yarn provided with slubs

A method for manufacturing a textured yarn from an artificial multi-filament yarn consisting of a plurality of continuous mono-filaments, by folding up the mono-filaments in multiple layers and entwining them by genuine twists to form a textured yarn which has the appearance, touch and texture resembling a spun yarn. The process is made up of the steps of spreading into individual filaments a continuous multi-filament yarn of artificial fiber, passing part or all of the spread-out filaments onto the periphery of a rapidly-rotating spindle of a conical or cylindrical shape, assembling the filaments around the spindle in the form of a sleeve constituted by thin filament layers, and continuously withdrawing the sleeve from the spindle at a speed which is lower than the feed speed of the multi-filament yarn, the sleeve being withdrawn either in a straight forward direction along the spindle axis or in a backward direction through an axially-extending passage in the spindle after being everted at the nose thereof. Alternatively, an additional yarn may be introduced as a core thread into the sleeve while it is being withdrawn from the spindle, which also results in a core yarn which has the appearance, handling and texture resembling a spun yarn.
