Methods and coating compositions for application to a substrate utilizing a high transfer efficiency applicator are provided. An exemplary method includes providing the coating composition to the high transfer efficiency applicator; applying the coating composition onto the substrate utilizing a high transfer efficiency applicator to form an applied layer, wherein a loss of volatiles after application through the high transfer efficiency applicator is less than about 1 weight percent based on a total weight of the coating composition; performing a partial polymerization via radiation of the applied layer; and after performing the partial polymerization of the applied layer, thermally curing and drying the applied layer. An exemplary coating composition has a pre-application viscosity, at a shear rate of 1000 s, of less than about 100 centipoise (cP), and a post-radiation-exposure viscosity at a shear rate of 0.1 sof from about 500 cP to about 150,000 cP.

Coating compositions and methods for application utilizing a high transfer efficiency applicator

Clearcoat compositions and methods for forming a clearcoat compositions are provided. In one example, a clearcoat composition includes a binder portion A that includes a polyaspartic ester resin. An activator portion B includes a polyol-modified isocyanate that is a reaction product of a polyisocyanate component and a polyol component. The polyol component includes polycaprolactone polyol.

Clearcoat compositions and methods of forming clearcoat compositions

The invention relates to an aqueous fluoropolymer coating composition for direct application to glass without the need for pre-treatment of the glass surface. The coating composition can also be used with other non-porous and porous substrates. The fluoropolymer coating contains a hydroxyl-functional fluoropolymer, and polyisocyanates. Preferably the coating composition also contains a water-dispersible hydroxyl functional polyurethane. The coating composition may exist as a 1-pack or a multi-pack coating system. The coating has excellent wet adhesion to glass, good weathering, chalking resistance, chemical resistance, and dirt pickup resistance.

The invention relates to an intertwined multilayer primer/fluoropolymer coating on the glass substrate. The final coating has excellent wet adhesion to glass, good weathering, durability, chalking resistance, chemical resistance, and dirt pickup resistance. The coating is an environmentally friendly aqueous, fluoropolymer coating composition. The coating process involves applying a polyurethane primer to the glass substrate, and partially, but not completely crosslinking this primer coating. An aqueous hydroxyl-functional fluoropolymer coating is then applied to the partially cross-linked primer coating, and the coating allowed to fully cure. The invention also relates to the intertwined multilayer primer/fluoropolymer coating on the glass substrate. The final coating has excellent wet adhesion to glass, good weathering, durability, chalking resistance, chemical resistance, and dirt pickup resistance.

Process for coating a glass substrate with an aqueous fluroropolymer coating

The invention relates to an process for coating a glass substrate with an environmentally friendly aqueous, fluoropolymer coating composition. The process involves applying a polyurethane primer to the glass substrate, and partially, but not completely crosslinking this primer coating. An aqueous hydroxyl-functional fluoropolymer coating is then applied to the partially crosslinked primer coating, and the coating allowed to fully cure. The invention also relates to the intertwined multilayer primer/fluoropolymer coating on the glass substrate. The final coating has excellent wet adhesion to glass, good weathering, durability, chalking resistance, chemical resistance, and dirt pickup resistance.
