Systems and methods are provided for updating expansion read-only memory (ROM) code to execute for device-specific initialization. An exemplary method comprises first accessing one or more copies of a ROM code in at least one of a plurality of repositories. The ROM code can be configured to execute an initialization process for a specific device in the computer system. The method can then select one of the one or more copies of the ROM code based on a selection criterion to yield a selected ROM code. The method can then copy the selected ROM code to a system memory of the computer system. The method can then execute the selected ROM code in the system memory to initialize the specific device.

Retrieving updated firmware code

Embodiments generally relate to firmware management in a computing system. Disclosed are techniques that enable a unified firmware management for multiple embedded devices in a basic input/output system (BIOS) setup menu. By enabling a unified and comprehensive firmware update interface for multiple onboard embedded devices, the present technology can achieve an efficient firmware management mechanism.

Aspects of the embodiments enable a selective BIOS restoration process by storing and retrieving BIOS modification record in a storage device. A baseboard management controller (BMC) of a system can retrieve logged system events from a non-volatile storage of the BMC and receive a command from an administrator device for the BMC to collect system debug information. The BMC can obtain debug information from a component of the system, in response to receiving the command. The BMC can save the debug information to a debug file and send the debug file to the administrator device.
