The system may determine, based on a location associated with the first device, an available ambulance to be dispatched to the patient. The system may provide, to a second device associated with an ambulance operator of the available ambulance, information that identifies the location associated with the first device. The system may identify a hospital to which the patient is to be delivered. The system may provide, to a third device associated with the hospital, information associated with the available ambulance or the patient.

A service management system may include a data storage device storing a hierarchy of a network in a user premises. The hierarchy may include virtual network layers and devices in each layer. The devices may be connected to the network in the user premises. The storage device may also store service profiles for services associated with the virtual network layers and the devices. Software architecture for dual mode phone and method of use

A system and method for expiring a software module on a wireless communication device is disclosed. According to one embodiment, the method comprises receiving, at the wireless communication device, an expiration notice for the software module and determining if license renewal of the software module is automatic. If the license renewal is not automatic, then the method includes notifying a user of the wireless communication device of the receipt of the expiration notice, and de-activating the software module upon receipt of instructions to not renew. In certain embodiments, the software module is de-activated after an expiration of a trial period if no instructions are received from the user in response to the notifying step. The method may further include sending the renewal instructions to the software module server upon receipt of instructions to renew, receiving an activation key from the software module server in response to sending the renewal instructions, and activating the software module utilizing the activation key. If the license renewal is automatic or receipt of instructions to renew are received, then the method includes sending the renewal instructions to the software module server, receiving an activation key from the software module server, and activating the software module utilizing the activation key.

System and method for expiring modular software components for wireless communication devices

Systems and methods for the operation of a dual mode wireless communication device are provided. A wireless communication device includes a scan module, a registration module and a learning module that cooperate to allow the device to identify available radio access technologies, select a radio interface, manage the radio interface, and learn behavioral patterns that optimize operation of the dual mode device. The dual mode device maximizes the overall time it is operational on the better radio access technology while not performing unnecessary scans. This helps in improving performance, preserving battery life and enhancing the overall user experience. In operation, the dual mode device scans for available voice or data networks upon identification of a trigger event, for example, a manual instruction, a drop in signal strength, a loss of signal, a time of usage on a particular network, a battery condition, an application preference, a state of the wireless communication device, or a geographic location. Various trigger events may be stored in a data storage area on the device and new trigger events such as geographic locations where manual scans are frequently requested by the user or geographic locations where signal strength is low or the network signal is typically lost can be stored for future reference by the device in order to improve performance.

System and method for optimized use of a dual mode wireless communication device

A method for providing television content to a wireless communication device via a home network includes receiving channel selection information for a selected channel from the wireless communication device over a wireless communication link; tuning one or more tuners of a wireless access device to the selected channel; obtaining television content from a content source in communication with the wireless access device for the selected channel via a communication link; converting the television content for the channel to an appropriate format for the wireless communication device; and sending the television content for the channel in the appropriate format to the wireless communication device over the wireless communication link.

A system and method for indicating signal strength of a multi-mode wireless communication device is disclosed. The wireless communications device simultaneously displays signal strength indicators of multiple radio access technologies on the multi-mode wireless communication device. In an exemplary method, the multi-mode wireless device determines a first signal strength of a first radio access technology and displays the signal strength in a designated annunciator area of a display of the device. The device then determines availability and signal strength for a second radio access technology and further displays a second signal strength indicator in the annunciator area corresponding to the second determined signal strength of the second radio access technology.

A memory manager acts on a memory that has been arranged with a predetermined number of fixed memory blocks, with each memory block set to a predefined size. These fixed blocks have been initialized to accelerate the allocation process. When a memory manger receives an allocation request, the size of the request is compared to the predefined size. If the memory manager determines that the fixed memory block handles the memory request, then the memory manager allocates one of the fixed blocks to the pending memory request. If no fixed block is available to handle the request, then the memory manager may allocate the memory from a free memory pool. The memory manager may search the available free memory blocks to identify and allocate the optimum free block that satisfies the pending allocation request.

A dual or multi-mode wireless communication device has a first microprocessor for a first type of wireless signal, such as an IEEE 802.11 ('WiFi') signal, and a second microprocessor for a second type of wireless signal, such as a cellular network signal. The received signal strength of the first type of wireless signal is monitored by the first microprocessor when the communication device is operating in a first wireless mode, and a notification message is sent from the first microprocessor to the second microprocessor whenever the received signal strength is determined to have changed from one level to another level. The second microprocessor then updates a received signal strength indicator ('RSSI') icon on the screen of the wireless device to indicate the new received signal strength level.

A system and method for detecting, reporting, and repairing software defects in a wireless device is disclosed. The system has a wireless subscriber unit for communicating to a support server. The wireless subscriber unit maintains an action file indicative of the historical operation of the wireless subscriber unit. When the wireless subscriber unit detects a local defect or error, the action list is transmitted to the support server. The action file is used by support staff to identify and fix the error, and to prepare a repaired software file. The repaired software file is received at the wireless subscriber unit, and the user is notified that the defect has been fixed. Also, the wireless subscriber unit may receive status updates from the central server to inform the user of repair progress.

System and method for detecting, reporting, and repairing of software defects for a wireless device

The present invention provides an improved wireless communication device capable of detecting the presence of an external device and dynamically updating its communication abilities to facilitate communication with the external device. The wireless communication device, upon detecting a wired or wireless connection from an external device, queries the external device to obtain summary profile information about the external device. The wireless device next formulates a query comprising at least a portion of the summary profile information and sends the query to a remote server to request an appropriate communication interface. The remote server responds with the appropriate communication interface. Upon receipt of the interface, the wireless communication device installs the interface and then proceeds to establish communication with the external device.

Dynamic interface software for wireless communication devices

Systems and methods for interchangeable hardware components on a wireless communication device are provided. When a handset is powered up after having a hardware component replaced, the handset recognizes the presence of a new component. The handset then queries the component to obtain profile information about the component. The handset next queries an update server over a wireless communication network and requests an optimized device driver that will allow the handset to utilize the complete functionality of the new component. The update server responds with the executable device driver itself and an instruction set for installing the device driver. Upon receipt, the handset installs the device driver and reconfigures or reboots to complete the installation and configuration process.

System and method for interchangeable modular hardware components for wireless communication devices

Systems and methods for dynamic installation of modular software applications and operating system components are provided. A wireless communication device sends a request to a software module server identifying a requested software module. The software module server responds with an instruction set for installing the software module and the software module itself. Upon receipt, the handset executes the instruction set to install the software module, making any necessary adjustments or deletions to data in persistent storage in order to accommodate the new software module. Subsequently, the wireless communication device is reconfigured or rebooted to complete the installation and configuration.
