Data-processing systems and methods include a rendering device which renders documents based upon the timing and duration of a laser beam associated with particular pixel data. Additionally, a controlling mechanism for controlling and adjusting the particular pixel data can be provided, wherein the controlling mechanism is subject to pixel clock signal in order to optimize a performance of the rendering device under varying rendering parameters and thereby enhance the quality of data rendered via the rendering device. Such a controlling mechanism can be implemented as a programmable phase locked loop circuit to which a pixel clock signal and a frequency are applied in order to provide at least one output signal for controlling the laser beam.

Because it is a separate circuit, the exiting closed-loop clock generator does not need to be modified. This transcendental equation can be solved for the required on-time t in terms of the nominal on-time t , e (vibration amplitude), v (nominal velocity) and f (vibration frequency). The equation which governs the intensity is H (t)&equals;v(t)/v . H (t) controls the level of irradiance. This method is further extended to multi-temporal vibration frequency and may correct banding due to irradiance modulation.

The invention enables a flexible, low cost electrostatic voltmeter to be produced using high-voltage field-effect transistors in the circuit design. The invention further includes input conditioning components that enable high-voltage sensing and high-voltage feedback in such a manner that processing of the input signal from the sensor is accomplished without producing a variation in the current passing through the field-effect transistor in response to voltage variations. Elimination of this variation further reduces the susceptibility of the remaining signal processing circuitry to transient direct current signals. A differential cascode as the input stage is the preferred configuration for the input conditioning components.

The present invention is concerned with a self-adjusting document sensor compensating for degradation of the sensor system. A suitable light source and a detector are provided, the output of the detector being fed into an amplifier whose gain depends upon a feedback signal. Periodically, the output of the amplifier is compared to a reference. If the output of the amplifier falls below the reference, a pulse is sent to a ripple counter whose digital output is fed back to the amplifier to change the gain of the amplifier. If the detector is an unbiased photodiode operating in the transconductance mode, the leakage currents and their subsequent effect on output with amplifier gain changes will be minimized.
