An implant delivery system includes a delivery catheter and a delivery mechanism slidably disposed in a lumen of the delivery catheter. The delivery mechanism includes an annular channel and a compressible annular bushing disposed within the annular channel. The annular bushing is configured for being placed between a compressive profile and an expanded profile. The implant delivery system further includes an implant coaxially disposed between the delivery catheter and the delivery mechanism. The delivery catheter lumen is sized to maintain an engagement element of the implant within the annular channel and to urge the annular bushing into the compressive profile. The implant constrains a distal tip of the delivery mechanism to assume a straight geometry. The distal tip is configured for assuming a curved geometry when the implant is deployed from the delivery catheter.

Medical implant delivery system and method of use

This is an implant for placement in the human body and an assembly for so placing that implant. Most desirably, it is an implant for use in the vasculature of the human body and is used to occlude some space in that vasculature as a portion of a treatment regimen. The implant itself is preferably a component of a deployment device using an electrolytically severable joint. The implant component is at least partially covered with a highly resistive or insulative covering. The highly resistive or insulative layer or covering appears to enhance the susceptibility of the electrolytic joint to quick erosion and thus detachment of the implant. Although the implant itself is preferably a vaso-occlusive device, it may instead be a stent, a vena cava filter, or other implant which may be installed in this manner. The implant may be independently coated with insulative or resistive material or may be formed using a material with such as tantalum, which forms such an insulator or resistor in situ.

Fast-detaching electrically insulated implant

A stent comprises a tubular member having openings therein and having a plurality of interconnected members and one or more frangible restraining members. The frangible restraining members break upon partial expansion of the stent. Thereafter, the stent self-expands.

Hybrid ballon expandable/self-expanding stent

An embolus extractor including elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end. The embolus extractor may include primary struts coupled to the distal end of the shaft. The struts may define a proximally disposed mouth. Additional secondary struts may be coupled along the elongate shaft to enhance the thrombus containing ability of the embolus extractor.

Disclosed are methods and devices for navigating a subarachnoid space in a vertebrate organism including percutaneously introducing a device into the spinal subarachnoid space at an entry location. Navigation of the spinal subarachnoid space is disclosed for the purpose of reaching a desired location in the subarachnoid space or the intracranial space, including areas in and around the spinal cord and brain. Once a desired location is reached, methods and devices for cooling or heating the desired location to cause physiologic changes are suggested.

Methods and apparatuses for navigating the subarachnoid space

An embolus extractor including elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end. The embolus extractor may include first and second struts coupled to the distal end of the shaft. The struts may define a proximally disposed mouth.

A variety of devices for use in accessing the subarachnoid space are described. In several embodiments an introducer sheath is disclosed having three main sections, a distal portion, an intermediate portion, and a proximal portion. The distal portion and intermediate portion form a first bend, and the intermediate portion and the proximal portion form a second bend, giving the overall device a general L-shape, S-shape, C-shape, or a three dimensional Z-shape. Apparatuses for attaching an introducer sheath to the skin of a patient are also discussed, as are methods for using, shaping and sizing an introducer sheath.

Occlusion-removing devices that include an inflatable balloon for arresting blood flow and a occlusion-shearing element are provided. Also provided are methods of making and using these devices.

Devices and methods for removing occlusions in vessels

This is an implant for placement in the human body and an assembly for so placing that implant. Most desirably, it is an implant for use in the vasculature of the human body and is used to occlude some space in that vasculature as a portion of a treatment regimen. The implant itself is preferably a component of a deployment device using an electrolytically severable joint. The implant is electrically isolated from the electrolytically severable joint by a highly resistive or insulative layer. Such isolation and minimization of the conductive pathway from the placement apparatus to the body's fluids appears to enhance the susceptibility of the electrolytic joint to quick erosion and detachment of the implant from the deployment media. Although the implant itself is preferably a vaso-occlusive device, it may instead be a stent, a vena cava filter, or other implant which may be installed in this manner.

Fast detaching electrically isolated implant

An apparatus and method are disclosed for accurately detecting the detachment of both electrically conductive and non-conductive implants which have been introduced to and are intended to remain at a desired therapeutic site. The detachment detection apparatus may include a conductive or an electrically-isolated implant, such as a vasoocclusive coil, connected to a wire by an electrolytically severable joint. The detachment assembly further includes a power supply having a direct current drive circuit for supplying a direct current to the joint, an alternating current drive circuit for independently supplying an alternating current to the joint, and an alternating current monitoring circuit for monitoring an alternating current level of the alternating current supplied to the joint. The detection assembly includes a central processing unit for selecting a first mode and a second mode for determining a detachment threshold level indicating detachment of the implant. Additionally, a direct current monitoring circuit is provided for measuring a direct current impedance level of the direct current supplied to the joint wherein a percentage increase in the direct current impedance level indicates detachment of the implant if the alternating current level is greater than the detachment threshold level.

Dual-mode apparatus and method for detection of embolic device detachment

This is an artificial occlusion kit for implanting and retaining an artificial occlusion device in a body space adjacent to and extending from a body lumen in a mammal. The includes at least one occlusion device and a retaining device for blocking the migration of the occlusion device out of the occlusion site. The retaining device is radially expandable at a retaining site adjacent the body space to be occluded to a diameter that is sufficient to engage the body lumen wall at the retaining site and form a barrier across the entrance zone of the body space to be occluded. The expanded retaining device also forms a lumen for flow through body lumen at the retaining site. At least one semi-penetrable space may also be provided in the retaining device, allowing introduction of occlusion devices into the body space to be occluded, but preventing subsequent migration of the occlusion devices out of the body space. This semi-penetrable space may also be distensible to allow for delivery of occlusion devices therethrough. An introducer wire or a tapered-tip delivery catheter may be used to distend the distensible space and deliver the occlusion devices. The retaining device structure may further include a radiopaque metal wire wound into a primary helix over an inner core member made of a superelastic alloy of nickel and titanium. An implantable medical device assembly is also provided, having the structure described for the retaining device of the novel artificial occlusion kit, and which is attached to an elongate pusher via a sacrificial link that is electrolytically dissolvable.
