Provided is a surgical method. The method includes detecting a location of a reference unit having a trackable element with a detector, the detector configured to provide at least one signal corresponding to a detected location of at least the reference unit's trackable element; accessing a computer-readable reconstruction of the being's anatomy; accessing a computer-readable reconstruction of an implant; detecting a location of a pointer tool comprising a trackable element with the detector, where the pointer tool is associated with a location of an anatomical feature of interest; accessing at least one computer-readable reconstruction of a trace, the trace corresponding to a geometry of the anatomical feature of interest; and superimposing the at least one updatable, computer-readable trace on the second computer-readable reconstruction of the implant.

Computer-assisted cranioplasty

A clutch system is provided. The clutch system includes an outer unit having a surface defining an aperture in the outer unit; an inner unit disposed in the aperture, wherein a shape of the inner unit matches a shape of the aperture; a low melting point material disposed in the aperture between the inner unit and the surface of the outer unit; a heating element; a temperature sensor; and a processor in electronic communication with the heating element and the temperature sensor. The processor is configured to control the heating element thereby changing the low melting point material between a soft state and a rigid state.

A continuum device/manipulator includes a first flexible tube, a low melting point (LMP) alloy disposed within the first flexible tube, and a temperature adjustment element that applies heat or cooling to change a phase of the LMP alloy. Changing the phase of the LMP alloy controls a flexibility of the first flexible tube.

An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides a continuum dexterous manipulator (CDM) with a specially designed flexible tool, to be used as a handheld or robotic steerable device for treatment of hard-tissue-related diseases. The CDM of the present invention works well in treatment of soft and sticky material (similar to a lesion) as well as milling the hard tissues (e.g. sclerotic liner of osteolytic lesions) and bone tumors. The present invention is also directed to flexible drilling tools as well as characterization and evaluation of integrating these tools with the CDM in curved-drilling of hard bone towards treatment of hard tissue related diseases (e.g. osteonecrosis or pelvic fracture). The present invention can also include use of various types of drill geometries, aspiration and irrigation, and endoscope view in curved-drilling and trajectory planning.

Steerable drill for minimally-invasive surgery

A device may provide, to a camera and a projector of a portable projection mapping device, first instructions for calibrating the camera and the projector, and may receive, based on the first instructions, calibration parameters for the camera and the projector. The device may calculate a stereo calibration between the camera and the projector based on the calibration parameters, and may provide, to the camera, second instructions for recognizing a reference instrument associated with the portable projection mapping device. The device may receive, based on the second instructions, binocular images, and may determine additional parameters based on the binocular images. The device may determine recognition parameters for recognizing the reference instrument, based on the binocular images and the additional parameters. The device may process the recognition parameters and the stereo calibration, with an optical tracking model, to generate and provide overlay visualization data to the portable projection mapping device.

A surgical guide assembly having an attachment device configured to be coupled to a bone. A cut location indicator is coupled to the attachment device. The cut location indicator identifies a location where the bone is to be cut. An arm is coupled to the attachment device, the cut location indicator, or both. A support structure is coupled to the arm. The support structure is configured to have a trackable feature coupled thereto.

Provided is a method for forming an implant with an autonomous manufacturing device. The method includes accessing a first computer-readable reconstruction of a being's anatomy; accessing a second computer-readable reconstruction of an implant; accessing a third computer-readable reconstruction comprising the first computer-readable reconstruction superimposed with the second computer readable reconstruction; generating at least one computer-readable trace from a point cloud; and forming an implant with an autonomous manufacturing device, wherein the autonomous manufacturing device forms the implant into a shape defined by at least one dimension of the computer-readable trace.

Cutting machine for resizing raw implants during surgery

A flexible manipulator apparatus includes an elongate flexible manipulator having a sensor, a user output device configured to provide sensory outputs to the user, and processing circuitry. The flexible manipulator may be movable to form a curve in the flexible manipulator. The processing circuitry may be configured to receive captured sensor data from the sensor during movement of the flexible manipulator, and determine a collision likelihood score based on application of the captured sensor data to a collision detection model used for position estimation. The collision detection model may be based on an empirical data training for the flexible manipulator that includes training sensor data from the sensor and training image data of positions of the flexible manipulator. The processing circuitry may be configured to control the user output device based on the collision likelihood score to provide a collision alert sensory output to the user.

Data-driven position estimation and collision detection for flexible manipulator

A method for computer-assisted planning of a transplant surgery is provided. The method includes obtaining a computer-readable representation of a donor and recipient skeletal fragment; determining surgical cutting planes on the computer-readable representation of the donor skeletal fragment from which a portion of the donor skeletal fragment from the computer-readable representation of the donor skeletal fragment will be harvested; determining virtual cutting guides; performing a virtual osteotomy to separate the portion of the donor skeletal fragment from the computer-readable representation of the donor skeletal fragment from a remainder portion of the donor skeletal fragment based on a position of the virtual cutting guides that are attached to the computer-readable representation of the donor skeletal fragment; positioning the donor skeletal fragment within a transplant region of the recipient skeletal fragment; and creating a hybrid computer-readable representation comprising the recipient skeletal fragment and the portion of the donor skeletal.

Computer-assisted planning and execution system

A computer-assisted surgical system can include a donor sub-system and a recipient sub-system. The donor sub-system includes a first reference unit having a first trackable element, a fragment reference unit having a second trackable element, and a first detector configured to provide at least one of a first signal corresponding to a detected location of one or more of the first trackable element and the second trackable element. The recipient sub-system includes a second reference unit having a third trackable element, and a second detector configured to provide at least one of a second signal corresponding to a detected location of at least the third trackable element.

Computer-assisted face-jaw-teeth transplantation

Disclosed is a method of simulating mastication. The method includes obtaining computer-readable three-dimensional representations of a first skeletal fragment including a portion of at least one of a mandible and a maxilla and of a recipient skeletal fragment including a portion of at least one of a mandible and a maxilla. The method also includes obtaining placement data and obtaining muscle insertion data. The method also includes simulating a contraction of a muscle positioned according to the muscle insertion data in a representation of a surgical hybrid comprising at least a portion of the first skeletal fragment positioned according to the placement data relative to at least a portion of the recipient skeletal fragment. The method also includes outputting a representation of mastication represented by the simulating.
