A system includes at least one sensor, an electronics module, an energy storage, and an energy harvesting module. The sensor includes a base, at least one core assembly body, a coil, and a fixed magnet. The base is displaced in accordance with an acceleration. A sensor body reacts to the acceleration. The sensor includes a magnetic circuit powered by a fixed or permanent magnet. Magnetic flux flows through the core assembly body and out of the sensor body into the base and back into the sensor body through another core assembly body. The sensor system detects the acceleration and deploys safety systems of a vehicle. Safety systems may include airbags, seatbelts, or other safety systems of the vehicle. The sensor and the system have applications in both military and civilian sectors such as landing and take of planes, protection of buildings and bridges, monitoring machinery, and harvesting energy from vibrating structures such as bridges and vehicles.

Blast detection and safety deployment system and method for using the same

A de-coupling mechanism includes a link slidably received in a link aperture of a bracket. A pin is slidably received in a pin bore of the link and a receiving bore of the bracket. A first block is connected to the bracket and includes an initiator receiving passage in communication with the pin bore. An initiator is positioned in the initiator receiving passage and retained against a connecting passage edge and oppositely contacts an end face of a cap connected to the first block. A second block connected to the bracket includes a longitudinal channel having a channel diameter larger than a pin diameter so the pin is freely displaceable into the longitudinal channel. An end face of a retaining cap is connected to a second block end wall. The retaining cap includes a stepped portion having a step diameter smaller than the channel diameter and the pin diameter.

Mechanism for rapid de-coupling of load bearing structures

Single coil magnetostrictive force or strain sensors. The single coil sensors have one electrical coil to both excite the magnetrostrictive circuit and detect changes in the permeability of the circuit arising from forces applied to the circuit or induced to strain a portion of the circuit, The sensor may be instructed to sense either or both compressive or tensile forces applied to the magnetostrictive circuit. Thin foils or plating applied to non-magnetically permeable materials may comprise part or all of the magnetostrictive circuit to provide an exceptionally inexpensive and light weight structure for the sensor. A permanent magnet may be incorporated into the structure to provide a sensor capable of measuring dynamic force, especially those of impact, explosion and relatively high frequency.
