Described are hard disk drives (HDDs) operable for archival applications and utilizing the same mechanical and electrical design of conventional HDDs. The capacity of a conventional HDD may be extended by up to 25% to 40% or more by employing multiple write and/or read spins before declaring success in write and read processes. The multiple write and/or read spins are designed to address the lower reliability that would otherwise result from high density packing of the data, at the cost of reducing performance. The result is an HDD with lower performance at higher capacity without sacrificing reliability and without altering conventional HDD mechanical or electrical design.

High-density archival storage using conventional hard disk drive architecture

Optimization of an aerial density capability (ADC) leveraging different qualities of media surfaces to which sub-portions of an encoded data portion are written. That is, data may be encoded to generate an encoded data portion according to a coding scheme. In turn, the encoded data portion may be divided into a plurality of sub-portions, each of which may be written to different media surfaces in a storage drive. The sub-portions may be read from the different media surfaces and combined to generate a recreated encoded data portion that is decoded using the coding scheme. As the encoded data portion is divided into sub-portions, the combined sub-portions may provide different error rates or signal-to-noise ratios that may allow for lower quality sub-portions to be assisted during the decoding process by higher quality sub-portions.

An edge node has a central processing operable to gather sensor node data via a sensor and store at least part of the sensor node data locally in a public region of a persistent storage. The edge node backs up duplicate portions of the sensor node data to public storage regions of peer-edge nodes. The edge node receives private data from a host that is coupled to the edge computing node and the peer edge nodes, and stores the private data in a private region of the persistent storage. The private region is protected from the peer edge nodes using distributed key management.

Systems and methods for multi-dimensional mapping of binary data DNA sequences are described. In one embodiment, the method may include determining a current level of a first DNA base from a sequence of DNA bases based at least in part on a read process of the sequence, determining a current level of a second DNA base after the first DNA base and a current level of a third DNA base after the second DNA base, and decoding binary data from the sequence based at least in part on the determined current level of the first DNA base, the determined current level of the second DNA base, and/or the determined current level of the third DNA base.

Multi-dimensional mapping of binary data to DNA sequences

A method includes partitioning a received data chunk into first and second data sectors to be stored in respective first and second store units. The method also includes generating first and second random keys. The method further includes encrypting the first data sector with the second random key, and encrypting the second data sector with the first random key. The first and second random keys are encoded with channel codes. Thereafter, the first encoded random key is appended to the first encrypted data sector to obtain first appended data, and the second encoded random key is appended to the second encrypted data sector to obtain second appended data.

Distributed data security

Features are detected from a sensor signal via a deep-learning network or other feature engineering methods in an edge processing node. Machine-learned metadata is created that describes the features, and a hash is created with the machine-learned metadata. The sensor signal is stored as a content object at the edge processing node, the object being keyed with the hash at, the edge processing node.

Systems and methods for timing recovery in DNA storage systems is described. In one embodiment, the present systems and methods include generating a unique pattern of DNA bases and use the unique pattern for a phase-locked loop (PLL) field of a data layout, generating a multidimensional mapping, configuring the multidimensional mapping to include one or more prohibited sequences of DNA bases, identifying a prohibited sequence from the multidimensional mapping and use the prohibited sequence for one or more synch-mark (SM) fields of the data layout, prohibiting a User Data field from using any of the prohibited sequences of DNA bases when converting binary data to DNA bases, identifying random insertion and/or deletion of DNA bases in the User Data field, and repairing the random insertion and/or deletion of DNA bases in the User Data field.

Recovering timing information from DNA encoded data

A set of N network-coupled edge storage nodes are selected to store a file of size |F|. The N edge storage nodes have heterogeneous storage availability and are ordered from a largest storage availability at the first edge storage node to a smallest availability at the Nedge storage node. Independent linear combinations h's of the d partitions are created and random keys are generated and stored in the first Z of the N storage nodes. Independent linear combinations g's of the random keys are created and combinations of the h's and g's are stored in the Z+1 to Nstorage nodes.

Distributed secure edge storage network utilizing redundant heterogeneous storage

Systems and methods are disclosed for a multiple detector data channel and data detection utilizing different cost functions. For example, a digital data channel system can have multiple data detectors where each data detector implements a distinct cost function for detecting data. A cost function analyzer can then selectively choose decisions from the multiple data detectors to generate a data sequence. In some examples, a dual detector system may have one detector implement a Soft-Output Viterbi Algorithm (SOVA) cost function and another detector implement a peak detection algorithm. Further, in some embodiments, the cost function analyzer can implement multiple selection criteria to determine which decisions to include in a data sequence from the multiple data detectors.

Systems and methods are disclosed for improving data channel design by applying transform domain analytics to more reliably extract user data from a signal. In certain embodiments, an apparatus may comprise a channel circuit configured to receive an analog signal at an input of the channel circuit, and sample the analog signal to obtain a set of signal samples. The channel circuit may further apply a filter configured to perform transform domain analysis to the set of signal samples to generate a first subset of samples, the first subset including fewer transitions and having a higher signal to noise ratio (SNR) than the set of signal samples. The channel circuit may detect first bit transform domain representation values from the first subset, and determine channel bit values encoded in the analog signal based on the set of signal samples and using the first bit transform domain representation values detected from the first subset as side information.
