A system and method for controlling a pumps configured to pump fluid from a fluid supply to a frac iron configuration. A pressure schedule is defined, the pressure schedule including a pumps assigned to sets of pumps, wherein each set of pumps is associated with a pressure level and wherein each set of pumps except a first set of pumps is a subset of a previous set of pumps. The first set of pumps is enabled to pump fluid continuously until the fluid in the manifold has reached a predetermined pressure level. A processor then automatically disables the electric pumps that are not in the next set of electric pumps, while allowing the next set of pumps to continue to pump fluid until the fluid in the manifold has reached the next pressure level. This continues until the manifold is at the desired pressure.

Methods and systems for controlling proppant concentration in a hydraulic fracturing slurry include measuring volumetric flow rates of fracturing fluid input to a blender and hydraulic fracturing slurry output from the blender, using these measured values to calculate a volumetric flow rate of proppant input, a slurry density and/or a slurry volume fraction, adjusting first and second valves to control rates of fluid and proppant delivery to the blender and re-measuring the volumetric flow rates and recalculating until target values of volumetric flow rate of proppant input, slurry density and/or slurry volume fraction are achieved.

Volumetric control for proppant concentration in hydraulic fracturing

Described herein are systems, apparatuses, methods and computer-readable media that monitor and evaluate the density of a slurry of materials provided to a wellbore. Such systems and methods may be used when a volume of solids used in a hydraulic fracturing process is mixed with a volume of fluid when the slurry of materials is formed according to a hydraulic fracturing rule. This slurry may then be provided to the wellbore such that a hydraulic fracturing process may be completed. Here the solids may include a specific type of sand, a proppant material, or other material. Fluids used to make the slurry may include water, chemicals, or other liquids. A density of the slurry may be identified based on measurements that identify a mass of solids and volume of fluid that are provided to form the slurry.

The system may comprise one or more sensors for collecting data corresponding to the one or more pressures, flow rates, injection rates, compositions, temperatures, and densities of at least one of the first composition and the second composition, wherein the controller controls the one or more pressures, flow rates, injection rates, compositions, temperatures, and densities of at least one of the first composition and the second composition based, at least in part, on the data.

Adaptive hydraulic fracturing controller for controlled breakdown technology

To improve or optimize a wellbore treatment operation, a target net treating pressure may be determined and the constant net treating pressure maintained to effectively enhance formation breakdown and fracture complexity as well as provide a reduction in wear and tear of equipment and completion time. The target net treating pressure may be based on one or more treatment parameters and these parameters may be adjusted during the wellbore treatment operation to maintain a constant net treating pressure at or about the target net treating pressure. The injection rate or pressure of a treatment fluid may be adjusted to maintain the constant net treating pressure. Measurements associated with the wellbore treatment operation may be compared to an operational constraint and adjustments to the wellbore treatment operation may be made based on the comparison. The wellbore treatment operation may be terminated based on a parameter falling below or exceeding a threshold.

Pressure controlled wellbore treatment

A method for hydraulically fracturing a subterranean formation includes preparing and sending a first command signal from a master controller to a plurality of pumps of a pump system. The first command signal specifies a flow rate output for each in pump to achieve a first target flow rate for a fracturing fluid being injected into the subterranean formation. A pressure of the fracturing fluid injected into the subterranean formation at the first target flow rate is monitored and, based on the pressure, the master controller determines when to increase a flow rate of the fracturing fluid to a second target flow rate. The master controller prepares and sends a second command signal to the plurality of pumps to specify the flow rate output for each pump to achieve the second target flow rate.

Fracturing systems and methods for increasing the conductivity of a flow path between a reservoir formation and a wellbore are presented that include varying a proppant concentration of a fracturing fluid in response to a measured characteristic from the wellbore during the fracturing process. The pumping system further includes a liquid additive pump to deliver fluid gravity fed from the outlet of the holding tank, a chemical transfer pump to pump fluid into the holding tank in response to receiving a first signal that a fluid level of the holding tank is below the first sensor and cease to pump fluid into the holding tank in response to receiving a second signal from the second sensor indicating the fluid level is above the second sensor.
