Methods, techniques, computer program products, apparatus, devices, etc., used in connection with DSL Management Interfaces, significantly improve the management capabilities of a DSL network and/or improve testing relating to DSL equipment and services by permitting better control and operation of a DSL system, including implementation of timestamping for more accurate measurement, monitoring and control of a system. Timestamping further allows customized data collection techniques, where a DSL line can be measured or monitored at intervals whose frequency depends on the line's stability. Moreover, data parameter read and control parameter write operations are presented in conjunction with the use of timestamping. Also, control and operation of a DSL system is enhanced by implementing bit-loading that minimizes, eliminates or otherwise mitigates the amount by which the SNR margin per tone exceeds a maximum SNR margin quantity, where such bit-loading can be selected through an appropriate interface.

DSL systems and methods

Various embodiments of the invention describe systems, devices and methods used to improve network topology connectivity by implementing throughput analysis between an access point and a plurality of extenders. This throughput analysis may include measurements such as interference and load values.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods identify, among a plurality of DSL lines, a subgroup of DSL lines based on one or more common characteristics and use the common characteristic(s) to identify a set of power control parameters that enable an upstream rate for the subgroup of DSL lines that is different than an upstream rate for DSL lines in the plurality of DSL lines that do not include the subgroup of DSL lines before applying the set of power control parameters to the subgroup of DSL lines to achieve the upstream rate.

Methods, systems, and apparatuses for implementing upstream power control for DSL

A DSL management system predicts achieving improved DSL line performance before a DSL optimizer optimizes performance of the DSL line. The system obtains a current state of performance of the DSL line before optimization and a target state of performance after optimization. The system further obtains a measure of DSL line characteristics and identifies, from records of performance information associated with DSL lines, a subset of records associated with a subset of DSL lines that have a similar measure of the DSL line characteristics as the DSL line for which achieving improved performance is predicted. The system obtains a probability that the DSL optimizer will optimize the performance of the DSL line based on a frequency with which the identified subset of records indicates that the optimizer previously has optimized the performance of the subset of DSL lines.

Method and apparatus for predicting successful DSL line optimization

Apparatuses, systems, and methods assign to a first group of DSL lines a first set of loop lengths and a second set of loop lengths to a second group of DSL lines. A first set of power control parameters is identified for the first group of DSL lines to enable a first upstream rate, subject to a given set of criteria for the second group of DSL lines or subject to a second set of power control parameters for the second group of DSL lines. The first and second sets of power control parameters may then be applied to their respective groups of DSL lines, e.g., to implement upstream power control.

Methods systems, and apparatuses for implementing upstream power control for DSL

In accordance with embodiments disclosed herein, there are provided apparatuses, systems and methods for implementing upstream power control for DSL communications. For example, such a system may include means for: dividing a plurality of DSL lines into a first group of DSL lines and a second group of DSL lines based on characteristics common to each of the DSL lines within the respective first and second groups; determining attainable upstream data rates for the first and second groups of DSL lines according to the characteristics of each group; selecting upstream power control parameters to apply to each of the first and second groups of DSL lines based on the attainable upstream data rates determined; and instructing the DSL lines of the first and second groups to adopt the selected upstream power control parameters. In accordance with embodiments disclosed herein, there are provided apparatus, systems and methods for implementing DSL line fault determination and localization via SELT, DELT, and MELT diagnostics. For example, such a system or computer implemented method may include means for: receiving Metallic Loop/Line Testing (MELT) test output from applying a MELT test to a DSL line; receiving Dual-End Line Testing (DELT) test output from applying a DELT test to the DSL line; receiving Single-Ended Loop Testing (SELT) test output from applying a SELT test to the DSL line; determining one or more faults are present on the DSL line by comparing the MELT test output, the DELT test output, and the SELT test output; and localizing the one or more determined faults by comparing the MELT test output, the DELT test output, and the SELT test output. Other related embodiments are disclosed.

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for implementing DSL line fault determination and localization via selt, delt, and melt diagnostics

A DSL management system predicts achieving improved DSL line performance before a DSL optimizer in the DSL management system optimizes performance of the DSL line. The system obtains a current state of performance of the DSL line before optimization, and a target state of performance of the DSL line after optimization. The system further obtains a measure of the DSL line characteristics of the DSL line, and identifies, from among a plurality of records of performance information correspondingly associated with a plurality of DSL lines, a subset of the records of performance information correspondingly associated with a subset of DSL lines having a similar measure of the DSL line characteristics as the DSL line for which achieving improved DSL line performance is to be predicted. The system obtains a probability that the DSL optimizer will optimize the performance of the DSL line from the current state of performance to the target state of performance, based on a frequency with which the identified subset of records of information associated with the subset of DSL lines indicates that the DSL optimizer previously has optimized the performance of the subset of DSL lines from a same or similar state as the current state of performance to a same or similar state as the target state of performance.

Described are systems and methods for a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) customer premises equipment (CPE) Management Center (CMC). In one embodiment, the CMC includes a communications interface to receive information from the CPE device regarding operation of the CPE device. The received information is analyzed and a command signal generation module generates a corresponding command signal for transmission to the at least one CPE device to modify the CPE device operation based on the analysis results in a manner which either enhances CPE device performance, for example increasing data rate, or improves line stability, for example reducing CPE error rate.

In accordance with embodiments disclosed herein, there are provided apparatus, systems, and methods for identifying cable-level faults in a copper plant of a DSL system. For example, such means may include identifying a group of Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL lines) within a common cable; determining a baseline of physical line characteristics for each of the DSL lines in the group; collecting current physical line characteristics for each of the DSL lines in the group; determining a physical line characteristics delta for each of the DSL lines in the group by comparing the current physical line characteristics to the baseline of physical line characteristics for each of the respective DSL lines; and indicating a defect in the common cable based on a quantity of the DSL lines in the group for which the respective DSL line's physical line characteristics delta exceeds a threshold. Other related embodiments are disclosed.

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for identifying cable-level faults in a copper plant of a DSL system

In accordance with embodiments disclosed herein, there are provided methods, systems, mechanisms, techniques, and apparatuses for managing mixed deployments of vectored and non-vectored VDSL. For example, in one embodiment, there are included means for establishing an operational interface to a communications system, in which the communications system includes a plurality of copper telephone lines organized into at feast a vectored group having a first subset of the plurality of copper telephone lines and a second group having a remaining one or more of the copper telephone Hoes which are not part of the vectored group; means for estimating one or more achievable performance targets such as achievable bit rates for each of the vectored group and the second group; means for selecting an operating point for each of the vectored group and the second group based on the estimated achievable performance targets; means for assigning configurable values to approximate the operating point selected for each of the vectored group and the second group; and means for configuring the communications system via the operational interface to adopt the assigned configurable values. Systems and methods for managing mixed deployments of vectored and non-vectored VDSL

An alternate communications device is coupled to a broadband CPE in broadband customer premises equipment (CPE). The broadband CPE is coupled to a broadband communication network management device via a primary communication path. The alternate communications device is further coupled to the broadband communication network management device via an alternate communication path. The alternate communications device is to provide diagnostic and configuration information about a broadband connection to the broadband communication network management device via the alternate communication path when the broadband CPE is unable to provide such via the broadband connection. The broadband communication network management device is to perform analysis on this information. The alternate communications device is to receive from the broadband communication network management device, via the alternate communication path, new diagnostic information and new configuration information about the broadband connection responsive to the broadband communication network management device performing the analysis.
