A sour gas stream is sub-stoichiometrically combusted to produce soot and a sour syngas stream. At least 10% of the carbon in the sour gas stream is converted into the soot. At least a portion of the hydrogen sulfide of the sour syngas stream is reacted with sulfur dioxide to produce a syngas stream comprising the carbon dioxide, the carbon monoxide, the hydrogen, water, elemental sulfur vapor, a residual portion of the hydrogen sulfide, and a residual portion of the sulfur dioxide. The syngas stream is reacted with steam to produce a shifted sour gas stream including more carbon dioxide, more hydrogen, more hydrogen sulfide, and less carbon monoxide in comparison to the syngas stream. Water and hydrogen sulfide is separated from the shifted sour gas stream to produce a sweet gas stream. The sweet gas stream is separated into a hydrogen product stream and an exhaust stream.

Systems and methods include a method and system used to predict and monitor lean mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) concentrations after a regeneration process. Process simulations are executed in a MEG regeneration system to generate intermediate parameters and a model correlating MEG concentrations and inorganic salt concentrations. A model for estimating a salt concentration build-up rate from spot samples is generated based on the process simulations. A lean MEG concentration with presence of inorganic salts is predicted in the MEG regeneration system using hybrid artificial intelligence and leveraging physics-guided machine learning.

Recovering helium from a gaseous stream includes contacting an acid gas removal membrane with a gaseous stream to yield a permeate stream and a residual stream, removing a majority of the acid gas from the residual stream to yield a first acid gas stream and a helium depleted clean gas stream, removing a majority of the acid gas from the permeate stream to yield a second acid gas stream and a helium rich stream, and removing helium from the helium rich stream to yield a helium product stream and a helium depleted stream. A helium removal system for removing helium from a gaseous stream including hydrocarbon gas, acid gas, and helium includes a first processing zone including a first acid gas removal unit, a second processing zone including a second acid gas removal unit, a third processing zone, and a helium purification unit.

Helium recovery from gaseous streams

A method includes receiving a water stream from a hydrocarbon production facility, the water stream having a first concentration of a kinetic hydrate inhibitor (KHI); flowing the water stream through a heat exchanger to heat the water stream to a target temperature; mixing the heated water stream with a treatment chemical to form a two-phase mixture, the treatment chemical having an affinity for the KHI; flowing the two-phase mixture into a separator; and physically separating the two-phase mixture into a first phase and a second phase, the first phase including water and having a second concentration of the KHI less than the first concentration, and the second phase including the KHI and the treatment chemical, the density of the second phase being less than the density of the first phase.
