An expandable device comprising, a body defining a bore, a shaft received in the bore of the body, an end plate coupled to the shaft, wherein rotation of the shaft translates the end plate with respect to the body, and a locking mechanism engaged with the shaft so as to permit the shaft to rotate in a first direction and apply a resistance force to resist the shaft when attempting to rotate in a second direction.

Expandable implant with worm gear

An insertion instrument for expandable spinal implants includes an elongate member, a shuttle, and a worm gear. The elongate member includes a handle portion of a proximal end and an end effector on a distal end, wherein the end effector is configured to be releasably engaged to an expandable spinal implant. The shuttle is slidably disposed within a cavity defined within the end effector and includes a wedged shaped distal end configured to engage an expandable spinal implant. The worm gear is rotatably disposed within the cavity defined in the end effector and is in mechanical communication with the shuttle, such that rotation of the worm gear effectuates movement of the shuttle. Distal movement of the shuttle effectuates articulation of an expandable spinal implant. A method of performing surgery is also disclosed.

Insertion instrument for expandable spinal implants

An interbody spacer is provided including a body portion defining a longitudinal axis. The body portion includes a distal end portion, a proximal end portion, opposed side surfaces that extend between the distal and proximal end portions, and top and bottom surfaces configured and adapted to engage vertebral bodies. The interbody spacer includes first orifices defined through the top surface. The first orifices include orifices having first and second cross-sectional configurations and the first orifices are arranged in rows extending along the longitudinal axis.

A vertebral plate includes a top and bottom surface, a plurality of orifices defined through at least one of the top and bottom surfaces, and a plurality of bone screw openings defined through the top and bottom surfaces. The plurality of orifices defined through the top surface includes a different cross-section than a plurality of orifices defined through the bottom surface. A vertebral plate system and a method of use are also provided.

Vertebral plate systems and methods of use

A bone screw for attaching a spinal prosthetic or bone plate to bone includes a tubular body having open proximal and distal ends. The open proximal and distal ends define a passageway therethrough. A shaft is insertable into the passageway and includes a distal tip that extends beyond the open distal end. The shaft is insertable through a lumen of a head of the bone screw. A gap is defined between a distal surface of the head and a proximal end of the tubular body. The shaft is rotationally fixed with the tubular body and the head. The head is repositionable with respect to the shaft such that an acute angle is defined between the head and a longitudinal axis of the shaft.

Semi-constrained bone screw and insertion instrument

A retention member for a spinal plate system where at least one or more segments of the retention member cover the head portion of a bone anchor member to inhibit movement of the bone anchor member that is inserted into the plate. The retention member allows for ease of insertion of the bone anchor member and once the bone anchor member is fully seated the retention member is in place.

A dynamic cervical plate includes a first end section and a second end section. In embodiments, the dynamic cervical plate may include one or more middle sections positioned between the first and second end sections. Each section may be longitudinally repositionable. Each section may include a plurality of openings for receiving threaded fasteners such as a self-starting screw or a self-tapping screw. In addition, each section may include an orifice for releasably mating with a drill guide. Each of the end sections may include a notch at one end for aligning with the drill guide or fixation pins. In one embodiment, a pin is used to interconnect the sections. In other embodiments, support bars are used to limit flexure between sections. In embodiments, one or more locking elements and/or one or more support bars may operably interconnect each section.
