A method for producing copper carboxylate, a wood preservative composition comprising copper carboxylate, and a wood product produced therefrom are provided. The method comprises combining a hydrocarbon solvent, a copper compound, and carboxylic acid and contacting the copper compound with the carboxylic acid in the presence of the hydrocarbon solvent to form a reaction product comprising copper carboxylate.

Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for treating wood to give it a desirable color that is durable over time, while at the same time rendering the wood resistant to fungal decay and insect attack. The wood may be pressure treated in a two-step process whereby the wood is first treated with a wood preservation composition, and then treated with a composition comprising pigments, or vice versa. Alternatively, the wood may be simultaneously treated with a composition comprising a wood preservative and a composition comprising pigments.

A graphene-based ion sensitive field effect transistor (GISFET) with high sensitivity and selectivity for ions is provided. For example, the GISFET of the present invention can exhibit high sensitivity and selectivity for Kions has been demonstrated utilizing a valinomycin-based ion selective membrane. The sensitivity of the GISFET can be at least about 50 millivolts/decade and can be stable for a time period of about two months, indicating the GISFET's reliability and effectiveness for physiological monitoring.

The &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic side chain includes a first cyclopentadiene ring covalently attached to the linder group, a set of second cyclopentadiene rings covalently attached to the first cyclopentadiene ring, and a third cyclopentadiene ring positioned at a terminal end of the &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic side chain such that the set of second cyclopentadiene rings is positioned between the first cyclopentadiene ring and the third cyclopentadiene ring. Methods are also provided for forming a polymer via polymerizing the &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic oligomer-containing vinyl monomer, and for grafting a &#x3c0;-conjugated aromatic/heteroaromatic oligomer-containing polymer onto a surface of a nanomaterial.
