Methods for preventing, inhibiting, or reducing metal (e.g. mild steel) corrosion in aqueous media utilizing a water-soluble formulation having a polyurea pre-dissolved in a polar aprotic solvent are described. The polyurea contains reacted units of a diisocyanate and a diaminoalkane. The effectiveness of the methods is demonstrated by corrosion inhibition efficiency and corrosion rate of metallic substrates in aqueous acidic environments using the water-soluble formulation.

A method and an electrocatalytic electrode for electrochemically reducing carbon dioxide to methanol are provided. An exemplary electrocatalytic electrode includes copper (I) oxide crystals electrodeposited over an atomically smooth copper electrode.

A method for forming an atomically smooth surface on a copper electrode through electropolishing and the atomically smooth surface are provided. An exemplary method for forming an atomically smooth surface by electropolishing includes placing a copper foil in an electrolyte solution including ethylene glycol and phosphoric acid. The copper foil is coupled to a current source. Current is applied to the copper foil to electropolish the copper foil. The electropolishing is stopped when the electropolishing is completed.

A method of inhibiting corrosion of metal in contact with a corrosive medium in an oil or gas field environment, whereby a formulation containing a polyurea is introduced into the corrosive medium in contact with the metal, wherein the polyurea is formed from a polymerization reaction between a piperazine having at least two reactive amine groups and a diisocyanate. The polyurea is introduced into the corrosive medium at a concentration of 1 to 250 ppm.

A polyelectrolyte coated fly ash is described with a method of making and a method of using for the adsorption of a contaminant from a solution. The polyelectrolyte coated fly ash may be made by treating the oil fly ash with acid, and then contacting the product with a positive polyelectrolyte to create a first polyelectrolyte layer, and then with a negative polyelectrolyte to create a negative polyelectrolyte layer. The resulting polyelectrolyte coated fly ash quickly adsorbs contaminants from solution, and may be cleaned and reused.

A cross-linked polymeric resin which contains reacted monomer units of an aniline, a diaminoalkane, and an aldehyde, and which is functionalized with at least one dithiocarbamate moiety. A process for producing the cross-linked polymeric resin whereby an aniline and a diaminoalkane are linked together by Mannich-type polycondensation reactions with an aldehyde. The resulting Mannich-type polycondensation product is converted into the cross-linked polymeric resin through functionalization of one or more amine functional groups with dithiocarbamate moieties. A method for removing heavy metals, such as Hg(II), from an aqueous solution, whereby the cross-linked polymeric resin is contacted with the aqueous solution, and the heavy metal is thus adsorbed onto the cross-linked polymeric resin.

Method for electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide

The present disclosure provides a method for removing sulfur compounds from a fuel containing sulfur compounds. The method includes contacting the fuel with an adsorbent that comprises a carbonaceous material doped with nanoparticles of aluminum oxide to reduce the concentrations of the sulfur compounds. The carbonaceous material is at least one selected from the group consisting of activated carbon, carbon nanotubes, and graphene oxide, and the adsorbent has a weight ratio of C to Al in the range from 3:1 to 30:1, and a weight ratio of C to O in the range from 1:1 to 10:1.
