Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for determining a position of a mobile device connected to a network are presented. In various embodiments, the mobile device obtains a synchronization status of the network associated with one or more base stations. If the synchronization status indicates that the network is synchronous, the mobile device determines the position of the mobile device using previously collected crowdsourced time correction data for the synchronous network.

Determining network synchronization status

Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for crowdsourcing the synchronization status of a network are presented. In various embodiments, a server receives a synchronization status of a base station associated with the network. If the synchronization status indicates that the network is synchronous, the server collects information for computing time correction data. The server may send the time correction data to the mobile device for use in determining the position of the mobile device when the mobile device is connected to the synchronous network.

Crowdsourcing network synchronization status

An attenuated satellite positioning system (SPS) signal is acquired using long integration over multiple navigation data bits. To produce a stable internal clock signal to perform the long integration, an external clock signal is received from a highly stable source, such as a wireless communication base station or a nearby femtocell. An internal oscillator is driven at a desired frequency that is aligned with the scaled frequency of the external clock signal to produce the stable internal clock signal. The SPS signal is received and integrated for an extended period using the internal clock signal. Predicted SPS data may be received from an external source and used to perform coherent integration. Alternatively, non-coherent integration may be performed. Additionally, a motion sensor may be used to determine if there is motion relative to the external clock source or to compensate for Doppler errors in the external clock signal due to motion.

The method may include receiving signal measurements, reported by a plurality of different sources within a service area of a communication network, for signals generated by communication network transceivers that are detectable in the service area of the communication network. The method may also include determining quality of the signals generated by the communication network transceivers for mobile device positioning based on an accumulation of the received signal measurements from the plurality of different sources over a period of time. The method may also include generating a prioritized listing of communication network transceivers based on the determined quality of signals generated by the communication network transceivers, and providing the prioritized listing to a mobile device.

Methods and systems for assisting positioning determination of a mobile device

An apparatus and method for initiating a search mode of a mobile device based on the light information in the environment of the mobile device is described herein. The light information may include at least one of color temperature or illuminance, which may be used to determine if the environment of the mobile device is indoors or outdoors. A threshold may be predetermined or adjusted based on received position assistance information. The position assistance information may include at least one of time, day, solar angle, motion information, location information, or weather information.
