A client device is tracked over a period of time using 'refresh tokens' that are exchanged in conjunction with routine client-server communications. Each communication cycle between client and server includes a refresh token that is recorded at the server. The recorded refresh tokens are mapped to both server- and client-generated device identifiers. As communications between client and server occur, a chain of tokens, one for each communication cycle, is progressively recorded at the server. If the server receives a token that is outdated with respect to that which is otherwise expected based on the progression of the recorded chain, this suggests that the received communication was transmitted from a device that is a clone of another client device. A more robust device identification framework is therefore achieved by using a combination of device identifiers and tokens exchanged between client and server.

Resource feature transfer is described. In one or more embodiments, information is collected about interaction of an unauthenticated user of a computing device with a resource, such as content (e.g., a web page) or an application. The information may identify the user, a device or application used to interact with the resource, and so on. This information is communicated to an identity management service (IMS) to determine features to make accessible to the unauthenticated user when interacting with the resource. During the interaction, the user initiates authentication to a corresponding user profile. To achieve a consistent user experience, the features made accessible to the user when unauthenticated are transferred so they are also accessible when authenticated. To do this, authentication information is communicated to the IMS with a token indicating the features determined for the unauthenticated user. The IMS then merges these features with features indicated by the user profile.

A computer implemented method and apparatus for version independent Point of Sale Activation (POSA) product download. The method comprises accessing a database, wherein the database comprises a plurality of entries associated with a plurality of Point of Sale Activation (POSA) cards available for purchase at a retail store; retrieving, from the database, a plurality of entries associated with a previous version of a software product, wherein the previous version of the software product has not been redeemed; generating a serial number for each retrieved entry, wherein each serial number is associated with a current version of the software product; and updating, in the database, each retrieved entry with the generated serial number.
