A hybrid fluid-flow assembly having a base fitting that has been formed by axial load bulge forming from a sheet of metal, and a custom fitting that has been machined from a shaped-memory alloy. At least one connection port of the custom fitting is connected to at least one connection port of the base fitting by an interference fit. The interference fit is formed by cooling the custom fitting to a temperature below its transition temperature, deforming the custom fitting so that the diameter of its connection port is slightly larger than the connection port on the base fitting, installing the connection port of the custom fitting on the connection port of the base fitting, and allowing the custom fitting to warm to room temperature. The shaped-memory alloy swages and coins the outer surface of the base fitting at the interface of the ports, thereby forming a compressive, interference fit.

Hybrid fluid-flow fitting assembly

A swage fitting for connection of tubes by axial swaging includes a fitting body having a generally cylindrical body and an internal axial bore. A swage end of the fitting body includes a tapered inner surface that compresses a tapered outer surface of a sleeve into the tube when the fitting body is swaged to the sleeve and the tube. An adapter end of the fitting body may be fastened by a permanent or separable connection to another part.

Swage fitting

A swage tool includes a first die coupled to a portion of a head and a second die coupled to a portion of a die block. A die block holder holds the die block and the second die. A piston inside a cylinder moves the second die toward the first die. At least two pins couple the head to the die block holder. When one of the pins is coupled to the head and to the die block holder, the head rotates about an axis transverse to a longitudinal axis of the cylinder.

Pinned head swage tool

A swage tool includes a first die coupled to a portion of a first die block and a second die coupled to a portion of a second die block. A cylinder moves the second die toward the first die. The first die block rotates about a longitudinal axis of the first die block.

Swinging head swage tool

A fluid fitting for attachment to a tube includes a cylindrical first sleeve having a tapered outer end surface and an inner surface defining an axial bore for receiving the tube. A cylindrical second sleeve creates an annular space for receiving the tube between the first and second sleeves when the second sleeve is placed within the axial bore. The axial bore has substantially equal diameter throughout. A swage ring has a tapered inner surface that axially swages the swage ring to the first sleeve, second sleeve and tube. A first sleeve shoulder restricts axial movement of the swage ring. A first portion protrudes from the inner surface of the first sleeve to restrict axial movement of the second sleeve.

Fluid fitting for soft tubing

A swage tool for swaging axially swaged fittings includes a housing having an inner surface and a first yoke. A ram includes a recessed portion having a threaded inner surface portion. A piston includes a second yoke. A piston rod includes a spring holder and a threaded portion screwed into the threaded inner surface portion of the ram. A spring is connected to the spring holder. Carbon fiber bearings are provided on the ram and on an outer surface portion of the piston rod in axial slidable engagement with the inner surface of the housing.
