A package (10) made up of a blow molded thermoplastic outer container (12) and an injection molded thermoplastic inner container (14) inserted into the outer container through an annular closing receiving finish (18) of the outer container (12). The inner container has a lower major portion (20) of frustoconical configuration and an upper minor portion (22) of cylindrical configuration that is closely surrounded by the closure receiving finish portion of the outer container. The upper minor portion of the inner container (14) has an outwardly projecting bead (24) that is received in an inwardly facing recess (30) of the closure receiving finish portion of the outer container to position a rim (26) of the inner container at an elevation that is slightly above a rim (28) of the closure receiving finish portion of the outer container. A closure (16) with a liner (32) therein is removably secured to the closure receiving finish portion of the outer container with the liner preferably in sealing engagement with the rim of the inner container and also in sealing engagement with the rim of the outer container.

Container with insert to reduce effective volume and package

A method of constructing a lined closure in which a liner having a circular base, a liner membrane and a thermoplastic adhesive securing the liner membrane to the base, is press fitted into a closure having a skirt with internal threads such that the liner engages and rides over the threads and is positioned against the internal base of the closure. Heat is applied to the liner at least around the periphery of the liner so as to melt the thermoplastic adhesive and resecure the liner membrane to the liner base. In this way, the liner membrane is resecured to the liner base so as to correct any separation between the membrane and base that might have occurred as the liner was press fitted into the closure.

Method and apparatus for assembling a sealing liner to a plastic closure

A dual chamber closure and dual closure chamber package including dual chambers which have outlets and a common wall between the outlets. The closure comprises a first portion that is snapped into position on the outlets and a second portion hinged to the first portion and providing a cover closing the outlets. Each outlet has a top surface with an annular groove. The second portion of the closure includes complementary annular beads which engage the grooves and provide a seal. The second portion of the closure preferably includes an inner skirt that surrounds and engages an axial wall on the first portion. The second portion further includes an outer skirt that engages a shoulder on the first portion of the closure. Each outlet further includes an annular wall having an annular bead on the external surface thereof which is engaged by snap action with an internal annular bead on the annular wall of the first portion of the closure. In one form, the dual chamber package comprises a container formed by two substantially identical plastic tubes with D-shaped outlets. In another form, the container has rectangular outlets and may include two separate containers. In another form, the container is a single plastic container with two chambers and two outlets from the chambers.

Hinged closure for a dual chamber dispensing package

A consumer friendly package including a plastic closure having multiple threads which engage multiple threads on the finish of a plastic container. The closure has at least one and preferably four radially inwardly extending lugs that engage a radial abutment on the finish of the container to provide an audible click when the closure is fully applied. The finish of the container is provided with at least one, preferably two axial projections that extend downwardly from the threads on the finish and are engaged by the threads on the closure to retard back-off of the closure and eliminate the effects upon sealing of stack up between the tolerances of manufacture of the finish, closure and liner in the closure.

Consumer friendly package

A child resistant package including a container having an open end and multiple threads on the external surface of the container adjacent the upper end. A closure having a base wall and a peripheral skirt has an inner surface formed with multiple threads corresponding in number to the multiple threads on the container for engaging the threads on the container. A release element formed integrally on the exterior surface of the container below the threads. The release element includes an integral axial lug extending upwardly toward the open end of the container. The closure has a plurality of circumferentially spaced stops on the inner surface of the skirt of the closure below the threads corresponding in number to the threads on the closure and the number of threads on the container. The lug on the release element normally extends upwardly for engagement with at least one of the stops such that when the release element is pressed radially inwardly, the lug is disengaged from engagement with a stop and the closure can be removed by unthreading the closure from the container.

Child resistant package

A squeeze and turn child resistant package including a container having a finish and a closure having a base wall and an outer peripheral flexible wall depending from the base wall. The wall has an internal thread on the inner surface thereof, the finish has an external thread thereon. The closure has an internal surface with spaced flexible chordal lugs extending circumferentially in the direction of removal of the closure. The container finish has opposed radially extending abutments. Each abutment includes a radial abutting surface. The finish of the container includes an integral radial projection adjacent the radial abutting surface of the abutment which has a lesser radial extent than the abutment. The radial projection has a chordal surface extending to the intersection of the radial abutting surface on he finish such that the chordal lug on the closure is forced toward the intersection when a closure is rotated in a retrograde direction to remove the closure without flexing the peripheral wall. The finish has stops below the threads engaging a blunt end leading end of the thread on the closure to limit the movement of the closure and orient the closure.

A child resistant closure which can be readily opened by an adult comprising an outer closure member having a base wall, a peripheral skirt and a bead on the outer closure member for retaining an inner closure member for limited axially outward movement relative to the outer closure member. A push tab is hinged to the base wall of the outer closure member and projects through an opening in the base wall of the outer closure member. The push tab can be depressed into a plurality of spaces provided between circumferentially spaced ramp-type projections or castellations on the inner closure member. One of the castellations is provided with a stop surface such that when the push tab is depressed in that location, as indicated by indicia on the outer closure member and inner closure member, the closure can be unthreaded from a container to remove the closure. Further, the outer closure member can also be removed by axial movement of the outer closure member relative to the inner closure member to engage ribs and additional projections on the respective outer closure member and inner closure member so that the closure can be rotated to unthread it from a container.

Child resistant closure

A child resistant reminder closure comprising an outer closure member having a base wall and a peripheral skirt, an inner closure member having a base wall and a peripheral skirt with a bead on the outer closure member retaining the inner closure member for limited axial outward movement relative to the outer closure member. An indicator or a day disk is provided on the outer surface of the inner closure member and is rotatable relative to the outer and inner closure members. A first set of flexible radial ratcheting fingers extend radially from the indicator disk and engage radial lugs on the undersurface of the base wall of the outer closure member. A second set of flexible radial ratcheting fingers extend radially from the indicator disk and engage circumferentially spaced lugs on the upper surface of the inner closure member. Axially interengageable lugs are provided on the outer closure member and the inner closure member which are interengaged to remove the closure or to apply the closure to a container thereby providing a child resistant function. A window in the outer closure member is associated with indicia on the day disk to indicate the circumferential position of the outer closure member relative to the day disk.

Child resistant reminder closure

A child resistant reminder closure comprising an outer closure member having a base wall and a peripheral skirt, an inner closure member having a base wall and a peripheral skirt with a bead on the outer closure member retaining the inner closure member against limited axial outward movement relative to the outer closure member. An assembly of a day disk and an indexing disk is provided in the outer closure member and is rotatable relative thereto. A first set of flexible radial ratcheting fingers extend radially from the day disk and engage radial lugs on the undersurface of the base wall of the outer closure member. A second set of flexible radial ratcheting fingers extend radially from the day disk and engage circumferentially spaced lugs on the upper surface of the indexing disk. Axially interengageable lugs and recesses are provided on the outer closure member and the indexing disk and interengaging lugs and recesses are provided between the indexing disk and the inner closure member which are interengaged to remove the closure or to apply the closure to a container thereby providing a child resistant feature. A window is provided on the outer closure member and is associated with indicia on the day disk to indicate the circumferential position of the outer closure member relative to the day disk.

A child resistant closure adapted to be used with a container to provide a child resistant package comprising a closure having a base wall and a peripheral skirt with internal threads adapted to engage complementary threads on the container. The closure is provided with a plurality of circumferentially spaced flexible fins which frictionally engage the apex only of an annular bead on the container to provide resistance to closure back off in order to resist unthreading of the closure from the container. The closure is to be provided with a tab which is engageable with a projection on the container to prevent unthreading of the closure except when the tab is depressed. In another form, a cylindrical surface on the skirt frictionally engages solely the apex of the annular bead on the container. The cylindrical surface may be a continuous surface or a series of closely spaced annular serrations and alternating fine grooves. The closure may also be used without a tab to provide a secondary seal on a conventional threaded closure.

Child resistant closure and package

A child resistant closure comprising outer and inner nested closure members each of which has a base wall on a peripheral skirt with sets of lugs on the inner surface of the outer closure member and on the outer surface of the inner closure member which are adapted to be engaged when the members are moved axially toward one another. The outer surface of the base wall of the inner closure member is provided with a plurality of ramps and depressions and the inner surface of the base wall of the outer closure member is formed with a plurality of integral spring fingers. When the closure is applied, the springs fingers engage the depressions and orient the outer closure member and inner closure member preventing inadvertent engagement of the lugs by any top load. When the outer closure member is rotated relative to the inner closure member without bringing the lugs thereof into engagement, the spring fingers slip over the ramps allowing the outer closure member to rotate with respect to the inner closure member.

A child resistant closure comprising an outer shell having a base wall and a peripheral skirt and an inner shell having a base wall and a peripheral skirt telescoped within the outer shell. The inner surface of the base wall of the outer shell and the outer surface of the base wall of the inner shell have circumferentially spaced radial projections which are adapted to interengage upon relative axial movement between the shells. The top wall of the inner shell includes indentations or grooves between the projections which are at a small acute angle with respect to the plane of the top wall of the inner shell. The inner surface of the outer shell has at least one inclined indentation or surface which extends radially and is also at an acute angle to the plane of the base wall of the outer shell. When the outer shell is tilted in the direction of the inclined surface, the lugs projecting from the area of the inclined surface of the base wall of the outer shell engage the grooves in the outer surface of the base wall of the inner shell allowing the inner shell to be unscrewed from the container on which the closure is provided. The closure can be also operated by moving the outer shell axially toward the inner shell to engage the projections on the outer shell and inner shell.
