An aircraft includes a fuselage that includes a nose portion, a cabin portion, an underwing portion, and an aft portion. The nose portion includes sensors that generate sensor data. The cabin portion is aft of the nose portion and includes a passenger cabin. The underwing portion is aft of the cabin portion and includes a wing attachment region and a battery bay. The aft portion is aft of the underwing portion. A wing assembly including motor mounts and control surfaces is attached to the wing attachment region such that the underwing portion of the fuselage is located under the wing assembly. A tail assembly is attached to the aft portion. The electric motors are attached to motor mounts such that the propellers are in a pusher configuration facing rearward. An autonomous control system controls the electric motors and control surfaces based on the sensor data.

Various embodiments of an apparatus, methods, systems and computer program products described herein are directed to an Identification Engine. The Identification Engine identifies a portrayal in image data of at least one side stripe of an aircraft runway at a geographical location. The Identification Engine applies a three-dimensional (3D) map of the geographic location to the portrayal of the at least one side strip in the image data. Based on applying the 3D map, the Identification Engine determines a current position of an aircraft in the 3D map with respect to the aircraft runway at the geographical location.

Sidestripe identification, estimation and characterization for arbitrary runways

Systems and methods for the modification of an aircraft landing pattern through a graphical user interface. The graphical user interface provides buttons associated with flight maneuvers that, when selected, trigger an autopilot of the aircraft to perform the corresponding maneuver. The maneuvers may include a loitering maneuver such as a 360 degree maneuver, a downwind extension maneuver and a turn to base maneuver.

Traffic pattern control of UAVS and automated downwind extensions

An aircraft includes a display and an avoidance system. The avoidance system is configured to determine a first predicted trajectory of the aircraft, determine a second predicted trajectory of an additional aircraft, and determine a conflict zone volume based on an intersection between the first predicted trajectory and the second predicted trajectory. The conflict zone volume indicates a predicted volume of airspace in which the aircraft and the additional aircraft experience a loss of separation. The avoidance system is configured to render a conflict zone on the display based on the conflict zone volume. The rendered conflict zone graphically represents the conflict zone volume on the display.

Detecting and avoiding conflicts between aircraft

An aircraft includes a flight plan and contingency data including a plurality of contingency landing sites. An aircraft communication system communicates with a ground control station via a communication link and detects a lost communication scenario in response to degradation in the communication link. An aircraft flight control system controls the aircraft en route according to the flight plan. In response to detecting the lost communication scenario, the flight control system routes the aircraft back to a last known location in which the communication link was not degraded. In response to failure to re-establish the communication link, the flight control system selects a landing site based on a current aircraft location relative to a plurality of potential landing sites including an origin airport, a destination airport, and a first continency landing site. The flight control system controls the aircraft to approach and land at the selected landing site.

Unmanned aircraft control using ground control station

A system includes one or more cameras configured to attach to an aircraft and capture a plurality of images. The plurality of images includes a first image including a runway and a subsequently captured second image including the runway. The system includes an aircraft computing system configured to identify common features in the first and second images, determine changes in locations of the common features between the first and second images, and determine a predicted landing location of the aircraft in the second image based on the changes in locations of the common features. The aircraft computing system is configured to abort landing on the runway based on the predicted landing location relative to the runway.

Vision-based landing system

A method includes selecting a landing waypoint on a runway and selecting a starting waypoint based on a location/heading of an aircraft relative to the runway. The method includes selecting additional waypoints between the starting waypoint and the landing waypoint. The starting and additional waypoints include latitude, longitude, and altitude variables. A sequence of waypoints from the starting waypoint to the landing waypoint via the additional waypoints indicates a desired location for the aircraft to traverse. The method includes generating location constraints for the starting and additional waypoints and generating an objective function for optimizing at least one of the variables. Additionally, the method includes generating a solution for the objective function subject to the location constraints. The solution includes latitude, longitude, and altitude values for the variables. The method further includes controlling the aircraft to traverse the starting and additional waypoints according to the latitude, longitude, and altitude values.
