Techniques for forming a helical rubber hose are provided. Such techniques include modified crosshead extrusion techniques in which an elastomer is melted, fed into a crosshead assembly, and extruded on a helical mandrel fed through the crosshead assembly to form a hose. In techniques described herein, relative axial and rotational motion of the mandrel and a die plate at or on the outlet or output of the crosshead assembly are kinematically matched such that the distance of relative axial movement of the mandrel per one revolution equals one pitch of the mandrel.

Over mandrel extrusion for composite PCP stator

A technique facilitates efficient well production in relatively low volume applications, e.g. applications after well pressure and volume taper off for a given well. According to an embodiment, use of an electric submersible progressive cavity pump is enabled in harsh, high temperature downhole environments. A pump stator facilitates long-term use in such harsh environments by providing a composite structure having an outer housing and a thermoset resin layer located within the outer housing and secured to the outer housing. The thermoset resin layer is constructed with an internal surface having an internal thread design. Additionally, an elastomeric layer is located within the thermoset resin layer and has a shape which follows the internal thread. In this manner, the elastomeric layer is able to provide an interior surface generally matching the shape of the internal thread of the thermoset resin layer and arranged for interaction with a corresponding pump rotor.

System and methodology comprising composite stator for low flow electric submersible progressive cavity pump

A method, system, and computer-readable medium related to control of mud motors in drilling systems, of which the method includes measuring an eccentricity of rotation of a rotor in a stator of a mud motor using a rotor-position sensor, determining a torque of the mud motor based in part on the eccentricity, and selecting a fluid flow rate, a pressure, or both of fluid delivered downhole, through the mud motor, based in part on the determined torque.

A rotor and/or stator dampening system includes a stator and/or rotor with a liner selected of one or more materials to achieve a desired dampening effect. In one implementation, a progressive cavity motor or pump includes a stator with an internal axial bore therethrough. The stator has a liner along an axial length thereof with an inwardly facing surface defining the internal axial bore therethrough. The liner has a plurality of axial sections with at least two of the plurality of axial sections being constructed of different materials. A compression resistant mechanism, such as a spring or spring-like device, is disposed within at least one of the axial sections of the liner. The progressive cavity motor or pump also includes a rotor that is disposed and is rotatable within the internal axial bore of the stator to form a moving chamber between the rotor and the stator.

Progressive cavity motor dampening system

A progressing cavity pump or a positive displacement motor includes an external member having three or more lobes and an internal member extending through the external member and having one less lobe than the external member. One of the internal member and the external member rotates with respect to the other. The curvature of a profile of each of the internal member and external member is finite at all points. A ratio of a lobe volume of the external member to a valley volume of the external member enclosed between a minor external member diameter and a major external member diameter is between 0.9 and 1.2. A lobe height of the external member is related to a ratio of a minor internal member diameter to one less than the number of internal member lobes.

An apparatus, system, and method for mapping a conduit wall, of which the apparatus includes a shaft defining a central longitudinal axis, and a sensor module coupled to the shaft and including an emitter configured to emit a light beam directed at least partially radially with respect to the central longitudinal axis, and a sensor configured to detect a reflected portion of the light beam, such that the sensor module is configured to measure a distance between the conduit wall and sensor module. The apparatus also includes a centralizer coupled to the shaft and configured to position the sensor module at a center of the conduit.

Conduit mapping tool and method

Techniques involve a motor assembly including a rotor and a stator. The stator includes a contact surface for contacting an outer surface of the rotor. The contact surface includes a rigid material. The motor assembly also includes at least one constraint disposed along a length of the motor assembly, where the constraint constrains a radial and/or tangential movement of the rotor relative to the stator. The at least one constraint may be disposed at one or more proximate ends of the motor assembly, and/or along the length of the motor assembly. The contact surface of the stator may have a profile including peaks and valleys, and in some embodiments, the contact surface may be treated to reduce friction and/or wear.

Apparatus and method for controlling or limiting rotor orbit in moving cavity motors and pumps

A moving or progressive cavity motor or pump is disclosed, the motor including a rotor and a stator, the stator having one or more inserts or gearing sections to limit a lateral movement of the rotor relative to the stator. In some embodiments, the motor or pump may include a rotor and a stator, the stator including: a first, helicoidal, section comprising a compliant material having a first compressibility; a second section, helicoidal, non-helicoidal, or combination thereof, having a second compressibility, wherein the second compressibility is less than the first compressibility.

A technique facilitates control over the actuation of a device by utilizing a rotor and a corresponding stator system. The technique employs a rotor and a corresponding stator component in a progressive cavity type system. The rotor and corresponding stator component are mounted such that rotational and/or axial motion may be imparted to at least one of the rotor or stator components relative to the other component. The controlled rotation may be utilized in providing controlled motion of an actuated device via the power of fluid moving through the progressive cavity type system.
