For attacking semi-hard target objects (21) even in a semi-covered position (for the avoidance of the munition-technical expenditure on the intelligent search-fuse submunition with P-charge against hard targets), there is provided a scatter munition whose warhead (22 ) descends into the target area (12 ), hanging on a rotational parachute (13), and triggers off a fragment cone of heavy metal balls (23) inclinedly downwardly as soon as a search-fuse sensor (19) which is oriented parallel to the operative direction acquires a target object (21) on the basis of its own radiation, its radiation shadow or its contour relative to the surrounding target area (12). If that acquisition effect should still not have occurred by the time that a remaining height above the target area (12) is reached then--controlled in dependence on height by the sensor (19)--the warhead (22) is moved out of the slightly inclined orientation into the vertical orientation so that a peripheral surface covering of smaller heavy metal cubes (25) is discharged in the form of an approximately horizontal all-around fragmentation fan against any unprotected targets in the vicinity.

Submunition

A ballistic projectile including a subcaliber-sized penetrator which is coaxially carried in the casing of the projectile, and in which the penetrator additionally carries an explosive charge. The projectile possesses a proximity fuze at its tip which electrically triggers a penetrator-propellent charge which is arranged in the projectile base and which fills the volume of the projectile base, which accelerates the penetrator through a therebetween arranged propellant base, and in which the penetrator additionally possesses an impact detonator.

Projectile

An installation for the measurement of the wind direction and the wind velocity of a ground wind dependent upon the altitude above the ground. More particularly, the installation is employed for improving the hitting accuracy of unguided projectiles or rockets. The installation incorporates a vertically-orientable firing barrel or launching tube for the launch or firing of a measuring projectile, a speed measuring installation for the measurement of the launching speed of the measuring projectile from the launching tube, an optical camera device for the photographing and digitalizing of successive pictures of the measuring projectile which is fired from the launching tube taken in timed sequence. The camera device is positioned adjacent the launching tube oriented in parallel therewith, an electronic data processing unit being connected with the camera device for determining the current position of the measuring projectile in accordance with the successive digitalized pictures, and a display arrangement which is operatively coupled with the electronic data processing unit for the display of the wind direction computed through the electronic data processing unit, and the velocity of the wind dependent upon the altitude of flight of the measuring projectile.

A warhead which may be integrated, for example, in a bazooka, is capable of shooting through a wall protecting an enemy. For that purpose, a tandem charge includes a hollow charge which produces in the wall a firing passage for a follow-up charge. The follow-up charge is in the form of a fragmentation projectile which produces fragments behind the wall.

A process for producing a formed member, and a formed member which includes spherical fragments embedded in a metallic matrix is effected through cold pressure rolling. The spheres are arranged in the interspace between a basic support member, which may be a thin-walled inner casing, and an outer casing. Forging of the outer casing causes the material of the support member and the outer casing to be pressed into the spaces between the spheres, densifies the support member and the outer casing, and prestresses the outer casing and spheres, thus allowing the inner casing to be extremely thin-walled. The prestressing of the spheres and outer casing, together with the inner casing imparts a high degree of energy to the casing fragments and to the spheres, affords economies in manufacture and a substantial increase in fragmenting energy at detonation of the formed member.

Process for the production of metallic formed members

Portable anti-tank weapon including a projectile launch tube for firing a projectile at a target. A firing device having at least one firing tube for an illuminating projectile or flare is mounted on the launch tube, with the firing tube being at an angle of elevation relative to the launch tube. A combatant can fire the illuminating projectile or projectiles so as to illuminate to the approach to and the target area, thereby enabling him to sight and fire the anti-tank projectile.

Anti-tank weapon

A fragmentation casing for shells, warheads and the like, in which pre-shaped fragmentations or splinters of hard or hardenable material are embedded in a supporting structure which is formed by a material that surrounds the fragmentations on all sides. This material is adapted in response to the ignition of an explosive charge provided in the fragmentation casing to disintegrate into individual particles to thereby release the pre-shaped fragmentations or splinters. The fragmentation casing includes a shell base body which within the region of a sleeve-shaped portion intermediate the rear portion and the head portion of the shell base body is provided with an outer recess which is cylindrical at least over a portion of the shell. Placed in this recess as a single layer are pre-formed fragmentations, primarily heavy metal balls, together with a material which is hardenable by sintering. These fragmentations placed in the recess are pressed into a supporting structure surrounding the fragmentations. The fragmentations are pressed into and sintered in a sleeve-shaped fragmentation mantle.

Fragmentation casing for shells, warheads and the like and method of

A projectile having a chamber containing a propellant charge with an electric igniter and also having a chamber containing an explosive charge with a time delay fuse. The chambers are separated by a wall in which there is a firing pin actuated by pressure from the propellant charge when ignited to start the time delay fuse. The projectile has a safety pin locking the firing pin in ineffective position and which is withdrawable to arm the projectile. The fuse has a detonator spaced from the firing pin and a heat resistant resilient disc is interposed between the firing pin and detonator and is connected about the periphery to the wall on the side facing the detonator while a passage through the wall equalizes the pressures in the chambers.
