A steering system is provided with an uninterruptible mechanical positive coupling between a steering wheel and a pinion in the form of a steering shaft and with an electrical auxiliary power assistance, in which an electric motor introduces its assistance power into the steering system via a reduction gear mechanism. A switchable magnetic brake is provided, which in a closed switching state blocks the motor shaft of the electric motor frictionally in relation to a motor housing fixed to the vehicle body, and which in an open switching state releases the motor shaft so that this can rotate in a fixed transmission ratio with the steering shaft.

An arrangement for securing a steering column to a cross member, in particular to a cockpit carrying member, of a motor vehicle, includes a steering column with retaining means. This arrangement makes it possible on the one hand with simple means to secure the steering column to the cross member of the motor vehicle and, on the other hand, with a further reduction in costs and weight, to enable a high degree of flexibility in relation to the use of the cross member and the steering column for different motor vehicles, by including a cross member that has, for securing the steering column, at least one hole running transverse to the longitudinal direction of the cross member for at least one securing means, and retaining means of the steering column wherein the retaining means are secured by at least one securing means to the cross member.

Arrangement for securing of a steering column of a motor vehicle

A hybrid cross bar is provided, such as for supporting a vehicle dash board. The cross bar is supported, directly or indirectly, on at least one body location of the vehicle by a deformation element. The deformation element has a first sub-region enclosed by a plastic encapsulation. A second sub-region of the deformation element has a deformation region outside of the plastic encapsulation.

A device for connecting a steering column of a motor vehicle to a shaft journal of a steering mechanism. The device includes a U-shaped coupling member which is hinged to the steering column so as to be swingable about a transverse axis. The U-shaped coupling member has side walls which are provided with bores for receiving a tightening screw which is secured against rotation. A nut is mounted on the tightening screw. An auxiliary sheet metal piece is mounted on the inner side of a side wall of the coupling member. The auxiliary piece has a cutout which is in alignment with the bore in the side wall. The rim of the cutout has lugs which project into the bore of the side wall. Tongues are provided on both sides of the cutout. The tongues project toward the center plane of the U-shaped coupling member and toward the web of the coupling member connecting the side walls. When the shaft journal is placed in the coupling member, the front edges of the tongues rest against the shaft journal and prevent removal of the shaft journal.

Connection device for a steering column of a motor vehicle

A device for connecting a motor vehicle steering column to a shaft journal of a steering gear train includes a U-shaped coupling piece, the coupling piece is articulated to the steering column for pivotal movement about an axis extending transversely of a first direction of the coupling. The U-shaped coupling piece has a pair of laterally spaced sides connected together by an arch shaped bight section. The sides are spaced apart laterally transversely of the first direction. A lock bolt for retaining the shaft journal in the coupling is secured against turning in one of the sides and has a wedge-shaped surface facing into the space between the sides. The wedge-shaped surface has two bevel sections inclined inwardly into the space between the sides from diagonally opposite points on the outer circumferential periphery of the lock bolt.
