A backup system for an electronic parking brake, EPB, of a commercial vehicle ensures a safe state even during electric power failure of a power supply unit of the EPB. The backup system includes a detection unit for detecting the power failure, a storage device for storing sufficient electric power to perform a switch into the safe state, a boost circuit configured to charge the storage device during standstill of the vehicle and to discharge the storage device during motion of the vehicle, and a switch device configured to supply the electric power of the storage device to the EPB if the power failure is detected by the detection unit.

Backup system for an electronic parking brake and a method for providing a backup power

A method for testing functionality of a brake-system's select-high valve (SHV), including: comparing the pressure in a main-supply-circuit (MSC) with the pressure in a service-brake-circuit (SBC) and ascertaining that the SBC is being supplied with pressure from the other supply-circuit (OSC) if the pressure in the SBC is higher than the pressure in the MSC; increasing the pressure in the MSC above the pressure of the OSC; comparing the pressure in the MSC with the pressure in the SBC and ascertaining that the SBC is being supplied with pressure from the MSC when the pressure in the SBC at least approximately corresponds to the pressure in the MSC; and ascertaining that the SHV is functional if it has been ascertained that the SBC is being supplied with pressure from the OSC and that the SBC is being supplied with pressure from the MSC.

A parking brake device has at least one first connection line for connection to a compressed air source and at least one second connection line for connection to a compressed air source. At least one first compressed air output line for direct and/or indirect connection to a spring brake actuator, and at least one further redundant compressed air output line for direct and/or indirect connection to a redundant brake system, are provided.

An electropneumatic parking brake control device controls a parking brake including at least one spring brake actuator. The control device includes a relay valve with a control chamber and a vent. The control chamber can be connected to the vent via at least one second throttle element and/or at least one third throttle element depending on the position of the relay piston.

In the event of a pneumatic trailer connection failure between a tractor and trailer of, e.g., a commercial vehicle, a pressure protection valve (PPV) is provided on the air line between a double check valve that supplies air from one or more service reservoirs and a trailer parking valve without a flow restrictor, which transmits the air to the trailer connection for supplying the trailer brakes. When output pressure on the PPV drops below a predetermined closing pressure threshold due to the connection failure, the PPV closes to protect the tractor brake air supply. Upon restoration of the trailer connection and upon input pressure at the PPV exceeding a predetermined opening pressure threshold, the PPV opens and the trailer brake system is charged more quickly than can be achieved using a conventional trailer parking valve with a flow restrictor.

Method for protecting the air system in a commercial vehicle in the event of trailer break-away

An electropneumatic brake control device controls a parking brake of a vehicle with a service brake and the parking brake. It includes an electromagnetic valve device which can be supplied with compressed air from a compressed air storage via a storage connection; a parking brake signal connection for inputting parking brake signals output by an electric parking brake signaling device; and an air quantity-boosting valve device which is pneumatically controlled by the electromagnetic valve device and which has a working outlet that can be connected to a first outlet connection for at least one spring applied brake cylinder. A control air line is provided between an outlet of the electromagnetic valve device and a pneumatic control inlet of the air quantity-boosting valve device. A pneumatically controlled 2/2-way valve has an inlet which can be connected to the control air line or the working outlet of the air quantity-boosting valve device, an outlet which is connected to a pressure sink, and a pneumatic control connection for a stored pressure of the service brake. The pneumatically controlled 2/2-way valve has two positions: a conducting position, which is smaller than a specified threshold value in the event of a stored pressure of the service brake and in which the inlet is connected to the outlet, and a blocking position, which is larger than a specified pressure threshold in the event of a stored pressure of the service brake and in which the inlet is blocked from the outlet.
