A binding unit for a snowboard that permits an individual adjustment of angular position relative to the snowboard, includes, for fixing it to the snowboard, a substantially circular retaining disc, as seen in plan view, for a base plate of relatively large surface area. Coupling parts are mounted directly or indirectly on the base plate to provide a connection to a snowboard shoe which is releasable from the snowboard when the coupling parts are inactive or deactivated. At least one slide element on the retaining disc is displaceable between an extracted position, in which the at least one slide element at least partially covers the base plate, a portion of the slide element or elements projecting from a circular circumferential region of the retaining disc in the extracted position, and an inserted position, in which the at least one slide element does not at least partially cover the base plate.

For the purpose of fixing a binding unit () to a snowboard (), this binding unit () is provided with a retaining disc (), which is substantially circular as seen in plan view, for a base plate () of relatively large surface area. Mounted on this base plate (), either directly or indirectly, are coupling parts to provide a connection to a snowboard shoe. Teeth () are provided between the base plate () and the retaining disc () inserted therein through a central orifice (). The teeth () securely fix selectively adjustable and fixable angular positions between the retaining disc () and the base plate (). At least one slide element () is provided on the retaining disc () and is displaceable between an extracted position (), in which it spans or overlaps a transition region () between the retaining disc () and the base plate (), and an inserted position, in which the slide element () does not span or overlap this transition region (). The slide element prevents the base plate from being lifted off the retaining disc in the extracted position while enabling it to be lifted off in the inserted position.

A binding unit support comprises a support body of a length approximately that of the binding unit and having a longitudinal axis, distal end regions of the support body receiving jaw bodies of the binding unit, a bottom face of the support body having at least part regions designed to sit on a top face of a board-type runner, and a middle region of the support body being of a lesser structural stiffness than the end regions. A fixing device mounts the support body on the top face of the board-type runner, the fixing device comprising longitudinally spaced brackets extending transversely over at least one of the end regions across the support body and guiding the support body for freely sliding in the longitudinal direction relative to the top face of the board-type runner.

A binding mounting system for rapidly mounting a slidable front jaw and a slidable heel jaw of a ski binding onto a ski having a top face, comprises a plate-shaped base element having a bearing surface and mounted on the top face of the ski, front rear longitudinal guide mechanisms on the base element, the guide mechanisms preventing vertical and transverse displacements of the front jaw and the rear jaw to be mounted on the base element relative to the bearing surface thereof, and a positioning and locking device immobile relative to the base element and mounted thereon between the front and rear longitudinal guide mechanisms at a distance therefrom. The positioning and locking device has a top face remote from the base element and at least one rigid raised portion with steep flanks on the top face. At least one bar-shaped linking member extends towards a respective one of the guide mechanisms and has an end linked to a respective one of the jaws, the linking member having several recesses in an end opposite to the end linked to the one jaw, the recesses matching the raised portion to provide a positive fit between the raised portion and one of the recesses.

A damping device for arrangement between parts of a coupling device and a surface of a ski comprises at least one bearing element consisting of a first material, the bearing element defining a hollow receiving chamber and having a supporting surface facing the surface of the ski and an opposite surface facing away from the surface of the ski. At least one damping element is inserted in the receiving chamber of the bearing element, the damping element having at least one contact surface facing the surface of the ski, the contact surface in an unstressed state protruding beyond the supporting surface of the bearing element in the direction of the surface of the ski. The bearing element defines bores for receiving fastening elements and is arranged adjacent the contact surface of the damping element and extends perpendicularly thereto, and the damping element has a lower hardness and a higher elasticity than the first material.

Damping device for coupling parts, for example a toe clamp and/or a heel

The invention describes a support device (6) between the sole (9) of a boot (4) and a piece of sports apparatus, in particular a ski (5). Between the toe clamp and a heel clamp (1, 2) of a coupling device (3) a housing (22) is arranged which is mounted on the ski (5). In the housing (22) a running plate (32) is provided which is motionally mounted transversely to the longitudinal direction of the ski from a position of rest against the effect of a readjusting force brought about by a spring device (48). The housing (22) is mounted on the ski (5) in an end section facing towards the toe clamp and/or the heel clamp (1, 2) in a predeterminable position vertically to the surface (10) and in an opposite end section relative to the surface (10) and is mounted freely, adjustable vertically to the latter. Or the housing (22) is mounted on a freely moving spacer (13) connecting the toe clamp and the heel clamp (1, 2) in a vertical direction relative to the surface (10).

A ski brake comprises a symmetrically arranged bearing device comprising a housing on each side of the central ski axis, the housing defining a first bore extending parallel to the central axis, and a bearing bore extending perpendicularly to the central axis. A brake lever is rotatably mounted in the bearing bore, a crank arm extending from one end of the brake lever above the upper ski surface and a brake arm extending from an opposite end at an angle thereto, rotation of the brake lever causing the brake arm to be pivoted from a rest position above the upper surface to a braking position therebelow. A spring is arranged in the first bore for applying an adjusting force to the brake lever to pivot the brake arm into the braking position, an adjustment element is provided having a portion extending into the first bore and having a flange at an end thereof, the spring being arranged between the flange and an end wall of the housing, and a pivot pin extending outside the housing perpendicularly to, and towards, the central axis. A foot pedal is arranged between the adjustment element and the crank arm for transmitting the adjusting force, and the ski brake comprises a damping device exerting a damping force in a direction opposite to the adjusting force of the spring and having a length which is variable along an adjustment path from a rest position in the direction of the damping force, the minimal damping force in the rest position being at least equal to the adjusting force in the braking position of the brake arm.

The invention describes a binding unit (2) between a boot and an item of sports equipment, in particular a ski binding, with a front jaw (3) and a rear jaw (4) which are connected to each other at a presettable distance (6) by a connecting element (5) and form a binding unit (2) which is slidable in the longitudinal direction of the ski (1) in a longitudinal guide (8) which is arranged on the ski and can be fixed thereon. The binding unit (2) comprises a locking device (10) for locking the binding unit (2) relative to the longitudinal guide (8) or ski (1). Between the binding unit (2) and the longitudinal guide (8) and/or the item of sports equipment is arranged an adjusting device (13) which includes supporting elements fixed to the ski at a distance one behind the other in the longitudinal direction of the binding unit (2), e.g. transverse webs between latching slots in a latching strip, and at least one setting member which comprises an actuating member. On application of pressure to the actuating member and adjustment by a first adjusting distance, the setting member of the adjusting device (13) is inserted between at least two supporting elements, and after a greater second adjusting distance the locking device is unlocked.

A coupling device (3) between a boot and a piece of sports apparatus such as a ski binding having a toe clamp (1 ) and a heel clamp which are connected to each other by a connecting element at a predeterminable distance and which form a coupling device (3) which is displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the ski (5) in a guiding arrangement (9) arranged on the ski (5) and secured to the latter, and with an arresting device to secure the coupling device (3) with respect to the guiding arrangement (9) or the ski (5). Between the coupling device (3) and the guiding arrangement (9) and/or the piece of sports apparatus, an adjusting device (16) is arranged, which has a catching element (18) that can be engaged or disengaged by the actuating element (17) which is motionally connected to the latter, in or from the locking plate (19) which is provided with latching slots (20) arranged in the longitudinal direction of the ski. The catching element is pivoted in a plane running perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the ski by means of the actuating element (17) about a swivelling axis (40) arranged either on the toe clamp (1) or the heel clamp in the longitudinal direction of the ski and approximately parallel to the surface (6) of the ski (5).

The ski brake comprises a base plate (3) on which are supported two brake levers (15, 17) between their two ends via a crossed linkage (27) pivotably about two mutually perpendicular axes. Crank arms (35) opposite the free ends (33) of the brake arms are connected in articulated manner with a foot pedal (41) whose opposite end in the lengthwise direction of the ski is linked to guidance means (45) which are guided upon the base plate (3) slideably in the lengthwise direction of the ski against the pressure of a pretensioning spring (61). In the braking position, in which the free ends of the brake levers (15, 17) project below the ski runner surface, the pretensioning force of the spring (61) is absorbed by a bearing surface (57) of the base plate (3). In the ready position, in which the foot pedal (41) is pressed down upon the base plate (3) the free ends (33) of the brake levers (15, 17) are lifted above the ski. A slide block (67) slides the foot pedal (41) via its inclined sliding surface (69) away from the crossed linkages (27) upon approaching the ready position, whereby the free ends (33) of the brake levers (15, 17) are pivoted inwardly toward the middle of the ski. During the inward pivoting movement and in the ready position, the slide block (67) likewise transfers the pretensioning force of the spring (61) to the base plate (3), so that similarly to the braking position also in the ready position the linkages of the brake levers (15, 17) are unloaded.

The ski binding clamp mechanism includes a base plate 5 which is to be attached to a ski 1, as well as a clamping unit 7 which is guided in lengthwise displaceable manner along the ski. A locking arrangement 15 latches the clamping unit 7 to the base plate 5 in predetermined displacement positions. The locking arrangement 15 has a locking member 21 movably attached to the clamping unit 7 and is held by a spring 17 in mating engagement with a complementary locking member 23 of base plate 5. A double arm lever 27, pivotally attached to the clamping unit 7 and having an operating arm 33 and a disengaging arm 35, disengages the locking arrangement 15 against the resistance of spring 17. The disengaging arm 35 is substantially shorter than the operating arm 33 in order to facilitate the disengaging action. A locking projection 41 prevents undesired disengagement of the locking arrangement 15 when lever 27 is latched in the operating position of the ski binding clamping mechanism. When the locking arrangement 15 is disengaged, the locking projection 41 prevents the lever from being moved back into its rest position.

The ski binding comprises a toe unit (5) and a heel unit (7) which is connected thereto as a unitary assembly. The assembly is guided slidably lengthwise of the ski in a mounting (3) attached to the ski. By means of a latching arrangement, the assembly is latchable in several slide positions. The mounting has at least one insertion aperture for the point of a ski pole (17). One of the units (7) carries spaced above the insertion aperture two bearing surfaces (11) for the ski pole (17) facing each other lengthwise of the ski, which permit a tilting movement of the ski pole (17) whose point has been inserted into the insertion aperture about an axis transverse to the lengthwise direction of the ski. The ski pole (17) serves as a lever which acts to displace the binding lengthwise of the ski without having to separate the ski (1) from the boot. The latching arrangement can be unlocked by a manual actuating device or by the ski pole (17).
