A system includes a display and a processor coupled to the display. The processor determines a position of a vehicle relative to a road lane and causes the display to depict a set of position indicators to convey the position of the vehicle relative to the road lane. In one state, the set of position indicators include a plurality of empty shape outlines and at least one filled shape outline. The processor also determines a position of a hazard relative to the vehicle and causes the display to depict a set of hazard position indicators to convey the position of the hazard relative to the vehicle. In one state, the set of hazard position indicators include a plurality of empty shape outlines and at least one filled shape outline.

Snowplow driver assist system

A method includes a mobile device receiving data from a first beacon in a plurality of beacons, wherein the data indicates a plurality signals strengths of signals received by the first beacon from the other beacons in the plurality of beacons. The mobile device uses multivariable regression based on the data received from the first beacon and signal strengths of signals received by the mobile device from the other beacons in the plurality of beacons to determine distances from the mobile device to the beacons. The mobile device determines a location of the mobile device based on the determined distances.

Integrated assistive system to support wayfinding and situation awareness

A method includes a mobile device traveling in a vehicle scanning for Bluetooth devices. When the mobile device detects a Bluetooth device, it then determines that the Bluetooth device is a work zone tag. The mobile device then issues a warning that indicates that the vehicle is near a work zone based on the work zone tag.

In-vehicle work zone communication

Vehicles driving on a roadway interrogate passive tags in or on lanes of the roadway. Codes in the tags represent locations along the highway and which lane the vehicle is traveling in. Units in the vehicles communicate longitudinal and lane positions derived from the codes among each other or with infrastructure units for purposes such as traffic management, alerts concerning other vehicles, alerts concerning external conditions, or traffic control. The units may also communicate vehicle lengths or other parameters or characteristics. Vehicle units may communicate with sensors and actuators in the vehicles for purposes such as updating the vehicles' positions between adjacent tags. Specific applications for intelligent transportation systems are described.

Vehicle positioning system using location codes in passive tags

The present invention is an apparatus and a method for populating a geospatial road database. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a geospatial database management system is mounted on a host vehicle and manages geospatial data relating to a travel path for the host vehicle. The embodiment further comprises a geospatial database to store data elements indicative of objects and their location. The embodiment further comprises a database manager component to maintain the geospatial database and receive database queries from a driver assist subsystem. The embodiment further comprises a database developer component is configured to develop the data elements in the geospatial database and receive database inputs from a lane level digitizer subsystem configured to receive inputs from a plurality of sensors mounted on the host vehicle. Finally, the embodiment comprises the plurality of sensors may include a Digital Global Positioning System, a digital camera, and a scanning range sensor. The present invention includes a method for implementing the steps performed by the embodiment of the apparatus.

Populating geospatial database for onboard intelligent vehicle applications

A virtual mirror is rendered by a computer graphics display or screen. The display substantially replicates the optical properties of a physical mirror. The display is provided on a host vehicle.

An intersection assistance system includes at least one vehicle sensor and a gap estimator. The vehicle sensor is configured to obtain vehicle information on vehicles approaching the intersection along a main roadway. The gap estimator is configured to estimate gap information relating to a gap between the vehicles based on the vehicle information. The gap information includes a length of the gap, a location of the gap, and a velocity of the gap. In a method of obtaining information for use in assisting a driver of an entering vehicle to safely enter an intersection, vehicle information is obtained on vehicles traveling toward the intersection on a main roadway. Next, gap information is estimated relating to a gap between the vehicles based on the vehicle information. The gap information includes a length of the gap, a location of the gap, and a velocity of the gap.

Intersection assistance system and method

A geospatial database management system is mounted on a host vehicle and manages geospatial data relating to a travel path for the host vehicle, the travel path having one or more lanes. A geospatial database stores data elements indicative of objects and a location of the objects in three-dimensional space. The objects have a lane-level resolution and the location is accurate to within an order of one decimeter or better. A database manager component is configured to maintain the data elements in the geospatial database and receive database queries from a driver assist subsystem configured to assist a driver of the host vehicle. A query processor is coupled to the database manager component and to the geospatial database and is configured to receive the database query from the database manager component. The query processor queries the geospatial database and returns query results to the database manager component. This can be done in real time.

Real time high accuracy geospatial database for onboard intelligent vehicle applications

The present invention is directed to a visual mobility assist device which provides a conformal, augmented display to assist a moving body. When the moving body is a motor vehicle, for instance (although it can be substantially any other body), the present invention assists the driver in either lane keeping or collision avoidance, or both. The system can display objects such as lane boundaries, targets, other navigational and guidance elements or objects, or a variety of other indicators, in proper perspective, to assist the driver.
